The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for performing direct student care and student care related activities, including, but not limited to: personal care, activities of daily living, and other clinical skills necessary to meet the objectives stated in the individual student plan of care. These require tasks and other administrative duties and responsibilities will be assigned and directed by the Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse and Classroom Teacher

CNA's may help deliver the educational component by assisting the student with hand over hand and other similar physical exercises with respect to the student(s) physical limitations

in demonstrating his/her ability to perform the educational tasks as instructed by the teacher(s). CNA's assigned to a 1:1 role are primarily responsible for student safety, direct and indirect student care and should actively facilitate the student's learning.

CNA’s shall not do classroom coverage in the absence of the classroom teacher.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Maintains confidentiality of medical and educational related concerns in the school setting
  • Collaborates with student 's school nurse, teacher and therapists to help provide the optimal educational experience for the student
  • Demonstrates a professional behavior when interacting with school staff, parents and students
  • Self-directed and works within the scope of the job description
  • Takes directives and follows through with a high level of student care
  • Demonstrates effective communicate with the student, supervising nurse, classroom co-workers. and others.
  • Seeks assistance/guidance/information as needed
  • Safely manage and operate equi Clean and maintain the equipment
  • Follows established school department policies and procedures with regard to: attendance, work hours, safety
  • Maintains professional dress and appearance including wearing of school issued I D and name tags
  • Maintains professional, courteous, helpful attitude
  • Maintains current CPR/First Aid and CNA certifications
  • Assists with her/his 1:1 assigned students participation in the swim program including entering the pool when necessary with the student

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB:

  • Recognizes and reports abnormal signs and symptoms of common diseases and conditions with student(s)
  • Takes and records vital reports abnormal findings
  • Sensitivity to student’s social and mental health needs
  • Makes observations of student's environment to ensure safety and comfort of client
  • Performs basic personal care skills such as mouth care, skin care, grooming, dressing, toileting, incontinence care, and feeding
  • Uses assistive devices in ambulation, eating and dressing
  • Performs range of motion and positioning
  • Understands student’s rights and promotes independence
  • Reports students concerns
  • Knowledgeable or spread of disease causing microorganisms and uses policies and procedures to prevent spread of microorganisms
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and implement safety and emergency procedures
  • Identifies and demonstrates principles of body mechanics
  • Provides escort and transport duties as needed for student care

EDUCATIONAL & JOB EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • CNA Certification
  • Documentation of job specific training/competency
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR/First Aid) or successful completion within 6 months or hire date

LIST ANY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • No lifting, bending or twisting restrictions
  • Must be able to ambulate quickly and walk up four nights of stairs.
