Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

This position involves designing custom gearing and enclosed gear units, performing dimensional layouts, calculating gear geometry and gear ratings, and conducting bearing life calculations. You will prepare drawings and Bills of Materials for the shop, reverse engineer gearboxes for rebuilds, and collaborate with customers and sales staff on product design.

Responsibilities

  • Design custom gearing and enclosed gear units.
  • Perform dimensional layouts.
  • Calculate gear geometry and ratings.
  • Conduct bearing life calculations.
  • Prepare drawings and Bills of Materials for the shop.
  • Reverse engineer gearboxes for rebuilds.
  • Collaborate with customers and sales staff on product design.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Solidworks and AutoCAD.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably BSME or BSMET.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in mechanical design.
  • Experience in gear design, geometric tolerance, gearbox rebuilds, or bearing life calculation.
  • Experience with CAD (2D & 3D), specifically Pro/E.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in new product development.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing.

Work Environment

The role is predominantly office-based, with approximately 5% of time spent on the manufacturing floor. You will work in a well-established manufacturing facility, supporting an industry crucial to manufacturing. This position offers the opportunity to gain design experience and improve skills within the industrial gearing sector. This company is growing and adding new customers.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $53.00/hr.
