The Per Diem Surgical Tech will work 5 12-hour shifts in a 6-week schedule. Day shifts are 7am-7pm, night shifts are 7pm-7am.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision of the RN, assists the surgical team by acting as the primary scrub person who handles instruments, supplies and equipment during surgical procedures.

Under the direction of the RN, provides nursing care to the obstetrical patient.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serve as scrub person during a variety of obstetrical surgical procedures, handing sterile instruments and supplies to the surgeon while maintaining aseptic technique.
  2. Ensures that members of the surgical team are properly attired. Assists the surgeon in draping the patient to isolate operative site. Informs members of the surgical team of any breaks in aseptic technique and perform on the spot corrective action.
  3. Performs sponge, instrument and sharps count with the RN, based on established policies and procedures.
  4. Assists the RN in evaluating patient outcomes and effectiveness of plan of care. Assists the RN in revising and implementing changes in the plan of care.
  5. Assists in the provision of patient care by performing assigned tasks.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduate of a surgical technologist program or equivalent training
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist highly preferred
  • BLS certification required
