The Opportunity

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Engineering is a collaborative and service-oriented leader who supports enterprise-wide goals by aligning engineering and maintenance initiatives with broader business strategies. This role leads strategic, high-impact projects across our main manufacturing facility and additional locations, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement, resource optimization, and cross-functional leadership. The Director plays a vital role in enhancing operational performance while building and mentoring high-performing Engineering and Maintenance teams.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner cross-functionally with fellow Directors and teams to drive initiatives that enhance operational performance, support company growth, and solve complex business challenges.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of automatic, semi-automatic, and manual production equipment and facility systems to meet evolving product and customer needs.
  • Develop and manage the Annual Capital Projects Plan; maintain a 5-Year Master Facilities and Infrastructure Plan aligned with strategic goals.
  • Champion productivity and performance improvement initiatives plant-wide through collaboration with department leaders and frontline staff.
  • Apply industrial engineering principles to improve layout, workflow, line balancing, and material optimization.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improvement in quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Develop standardized labor metrics, time studies, and productivity benchmarks to inform workforce planning.
  • Lead implementation and sustainment of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement programs to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Maintain systems for process validation, engineering documentation, and drawing compliance.
  • Collaborate with R&D, PMO, Supply Chain, and Marketing to support new product and technology launches, ensuring seamless transition to operations.
  • Build, lead, and develop the Engineering and Maintenance teams through servant leadership and a collaborative, growth-focused culture.
  • Oversee acquisition, installation, and maintenance of capital equipment and facility assets, including preventive maintenance.
  • Partner with Finance on budgeting, capital planning, and ROI analysis to align engineering investments with business priorities.
  • Ensure adherence to GMP, OSHA, and environmental regulations in collaboration with EHS and QA/Regulatory teams.
  • Partner with Quality Control and Quality Assurance to maintain product quality, process integrity, and regulatory compliance.

What You Bring

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required
  • Master’s degree or MBA preferred

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in manufacturing
  • 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Experience in GMP-regulated industries (pharmaceutical, food, medical device) highly desirable
  • Proven ability to lead through influence and partner effectively with cross-functional peers
  • Demonstrated success developing, empowering, and supporting diverse technical teams
  • Familiarity with structured project management methodologies and the full project lifecycle
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools

Specialized Knowledge & Skills

  • Strategic engineering leadership aligned with long-term business goals
  • Expertise in workflow and layout optimization, Lean, Six Sigma, and CI methodologies
  • Strong financial acumen for budgeting, ROI analysis, and capital planning
  • Effective change leader who fosters buy-in and adoption of new systems and processes
  • Strong communicator who bridges technical and non-technical perspectives across Operations, Maintenance, Quality, R&D, and Supply Chain
