Assistant Controller

Dallas, TX

One of Vaco’s PE-backed distribution clients north of $1B in revenue is looking to onboard an Assistant Controller ASAP. The company is in the midst of a ton of changes in terms of building out the accounting team as well as integrating several large acquisitions that closed EOY 2024 – ideal candidates will be process-focused with a “roll-up-your-sleeves” mentality.

Compensation; $150-180K bonus

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in managing the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
• Monitor inventory accounting and cost of goods sold (COGS) to ensure accuracy and proper valuation
• Support the budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with operations and sales teams
• Maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting and accounting procedures
• Assist with audits and liaise with external auditors to provide requested documentation
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure timely and accurate processing
• Provide financial analysis and reports to management for decision-making support
• Manage fixed assets tracking and depreciation schedules
• Help implement process improvements to increase efficiency in financial operations

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or progress toward CPA preferred)
• 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a distribution, logistics, or manufacturing environment
• Strong understanding of inventory, freight, and cost accounting
• Proficient in ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics)
• Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to details
