As a Field Application Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering Boston Dynamics robotic solutions to our customers, ensuring their seamless integration and operational success. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of activities, including collaborating closely with customers to align system capabilities with their operational needs and designing site-specific solutions. You will travel up to 50% to customer sites and oversee the site-level solution architecture and commissioning of Boston Dynamics robotic systems, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with customer goals. Furthermore, you will implement scalable solutions that cater to both individual integrations and the growth of customer accounts, while also managing network infrastructure and configuration for robust system connectivity. Your expertise will also be crucial in monitoring system performance, resolving technical issues through advanced troubleshooting, and providing comprehensive customer training and support. Additionally, you will lead technical projects that enhance integration efficiency, standardize processes, and drive continuous improvement, while also supporting the early-stage testing and integration of new Boston Dynamics products. You will proactively gather, systematize, and convey customer feedback to internal teams, champion product enhancements, and steer customer-focused solutions closely working with product and engineering teams. Throughout your work, you will ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations, develop SOWs and customer success documentation, and deliver comprehensive customer training.

Day-to-day activities:
- Serve as the subject matter expert on Boston Dynamics products, resolving complex issues and providing technical input for product development and roadmaps.
- Lead the creation of complex SOWs for highly customized, large-scale customer solutions, ensuring technical alignment with BD product capabilities.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis, identifying and solving systemic product issues, and collaborating with engineering for long-term improvements.
- Deliver advanced training to internal teams and customers, creating specialized materials and ensuring technical knowledge stays current with product developments.
- Develop and prototype advanced integration solutions using BD’s API/SDK, creating custom tools and contributing to product enhancements based on customer feedback.
- Partner with Product and Systems Engineering colleagues to generate feedback and capture the key or missing requirements associated with your experiences in the field.
- Rapidly identify system roadblocks, isolate the root cause, and move a solution forward to keep our timelines on track.
- Willingness to learn or Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary technical assignments.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to FAEs and engineers, driving process improvements and promoting best practices in Field Application.
- Lead technical go-to-market efforts for new products, building a relationship with customers alongside sales, managing pilot programs, gathering early-stage customer feedback, and overseeing field testing.
Desired skills:
- Master’s in Computer Science, Robotics Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience in advanced robotics or automation systems. Minimum 3 years of experience. Typical requires 5+ years experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's; or a PhD; or equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience leading large-scale Field Applications Engineering or Solution Architecture projects, with a focus on customized, high-value customer solutions and advanced integrations
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships while acting as the primary technical contact for large or strategic accounts
- Expertise in leading multi-site, high-complexity integrations of Boston Dynamics products, including hardware, software, and networking components, while optimizing system performance
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts and product roadmaps to diverse audiences, including senior executives, engineering teams, and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated leadership in providing technical mentorship to junior engineers and driving internal process improvements across teams
- Experience in contributing to product development, collaborating with engineering teams, and driving technical go-to-market efforts for new robotics products and features.
Nice to Have:
- Mastery of Linux operating systems (Ubuntu) for large-scale systems management, automation, and optimization of robotic software deployments
- Expert-level knowledge of networking protocols, network security (routers, switches, firewalls, VLANs, VPNs), and troubleshooting complex networking issues in distributed systems.
- Proficiency in PLCs and experience with troubleshooting safety devices, conveyor systems, traditional industrial robotic arms and PLCs
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable software applications.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, Typescript, Kotlin, or similar languages, with a focus on developing advanced solutions and integrations using robotics APIs/SDKs
Travel:
- Willing to travel 50% of the time
