Job Title: Assistant Controller
Location: On-site, NYC
Salary: $115,000 - $125,000 per year
Position Overview:
The Assistant Controller will play a vital role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of all financial records. This individual will work closely with the Controller and other key departments to maintain efficient accounting processes and provide critical financial insights to guide business decisions. Residential real estate accounting experience is required for this role to ensure familiarity with industry-specific accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day financial activities, ensuring proper recording and classification of all transactions.
- Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring they meet accounting standards and reflect the true financial position of the company.
- Maintain and update the general ledger, including creating and reviewing journal entries for both cash and accrual accounting.
- Perform and oversee bank reconciliations, address discrepancies swiftly, and ensure cash balances are accurate.
- Manage the accounts payable process, from invoice verification to ensuring timely payments are made.
- Compile financial reports, offering analysis and insights to support management in strategic decision-making and budgeting.
- Ensure all financial operations adhere to applicable accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls.
- Support and coordinate audit activities by providing necessary documentation and liaising with auditors to ensure smooth audit processes.
- Assist with tax filings and compliance activities, preparing and submitting required documentation as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or similar certification is advantageous.
- Residential real estate accounting experience is required.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis.
- In-depth understanding of general ledger management, including both cash and accrual accounting methods.
- Highly detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a knack for interpreting complex financial data.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
