Essential Duties
1. Assists in formulating long-term goals to provide for the development and direction of the area of responsibility, ensuring conformity and uniformity with University policies. 2. Directs new systems development and modification of existing systems. 3. Evaluates user needs and implements systems and solutions to best service the community. 4. Consults with users to diagnose and resolve complex problems. 5. Serves as a liaison between area of responsibility and other areas to serve University goals. 6. Develops troubleshooting and problem resolution programs to ensure a high level of service and efficiency. 7. Directs a staff of non-exempt and exempt employees. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in a related field and ten years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus:
Positioned within Yale IT’s Operations Portfolio Management Office and reporting to the Senior Director, the Director of the Project Management Office is central to cross-functional collaboration across the university. In this dynamic role, the Director leads the annual IT planning processes and prioritizes projects and portfolios within IT and Yale Operations. They work closely with portfolio managers across the institution—and collaborate with similar project management offices in Finance, HR, and Facilities—while also overseeing program managers supporting large-scale transformation initiatives and their dedicated portfolio management team, distinct from the portfolio managers in the field. This role sets the strategic direction by establishing robust PMO policies, methodologies, and prioritization processes that ensure adaptable, customer-focused project management approaches. An immediate priority will be implementing a new portfolio management tool for Operations and reassess our overall methodology and maturity.
This vital leadership position advances some of the university’s most strategic initiatives by ensuring the effective use of resources and successful project execution throughout Yale’s diverse operational and technological environments. The Director will collaborate closely with peers—including the Director of Process Improvement and the Director of Organizational Change Management—to drive cohesive, integrated outcomes that align with the broader strategic vision.
Central to this position is establishing and leading a university-wide Community of Practice and Center of Excellence for project, program, and portfolio management. By partnering with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and leadership, the Director will develop inclusive and adaptable processes and best practices that ensure broad adoption and engagement. This role emphasizes transparency and collective ownership of project management disciplines, continuously refining frameworks, training initiatives, and performance metrics to deliver measurable impact and enduring value.
