The Development PK team within Bioanalytical Discovery & Development Sciences (BDDS) Department at our research division in Beerse (Belgium) is seeking a bioanalytical assay development expert (Principal Scientist level) with hands-on experience in protein therapeutics (monoclonal Ab, ADCs, fusion proteins, etc) bioanalysis using both LBA and LC-MS approaches. You will provide technical project leadership focused on the development of innovative bioanalytical assays to support J&J's pipeline.

You will be operating in a regulated bioanalytical lab that provides bioanalytical support for First-in-man clinical studies together with a highly collaborative team of scientists.

You will be self-motivated, with proven leadership experience, a track record of innovation, and expertise in protein bioanalysis.

In this exciting role, you will

  • Set and influence bioanalytical program strategies across a portfolio of projects and serve as a key contact for communicating technical information effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Be responsible for independently managing functional deliverables for assigned program(s) and for driving the science on a day-to-day basis with broad project goals and capable of making decisions and solving problems of high complexity.
  • Design experiments, interpret and track results, and utilize the information to optimize and advance bioanalytical support across bioanalytical platforms.
  • Work in a regulated environment, keeping accurate and timely documentation of electronic notebooks and study records.

Education Requirements:

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience OR a Master’s with a minimum of 6 years of relevant industry experience.

Required Experience and Skill Set:

  • Proven experience in supervising and strategically leading teams to support internal assay development, troubleshooting, validation, and sample analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, validate, and execute ECL-based ligand-binding assays for the quantification of proteins, including xenobiotics, biotherapeutics, and biomarkers, in samples from pre-clinical and clinical studies within a regulated environment. Proven proficiency in protein LC-MS analysis and sample preparation techniques, including immunocapture, protein precipitation, and solid-phase extraction (SPE). Expertise also extends to the automation of these processes using Hamilton and KingFisher platforms. Proficient in the upkeep, maintenance, and troubleshooting of bioanalytical instruments such as LC-MS (Sciex) and MSD.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development of innovative bioanalytical approaches and experimental designs.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the drug development process, alongside strong knowledge of bioanalytical guidelines and regulatory requirements (ICHM10), with a focus on method validation and sample analysis.
  • Recognized innovator in the fields of mass spectrometry and immunoassays, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a regulated environment with minimal supervision while fostering a collaborative and inclusive team atmosphere.

Preferred Experience and Skill Set:

  • History of publication in peer-reviewed journals and established scientific reputation (including publications, presentations at scientific meetings, membership of or leading cross-company working groups or consortia).
  • Understanding of external scientific environment and current state of art instrumentations, and ability to translate that to scientific innovation.
  • Ability to multi-task in a highly dynamic environment and flexibility to work in a fast-paced team in a professional and pleasant manner.
  • Experience with lab automation.
