The Advanced Product Development Section is inventing the future of flight and advancing propulsion capability for the next generation of military applications. APD’s focus is the design, integration, testing, and support of advanced technologies for new and derivative engine concepts. Technology areas include military inlet & exhaust systems, integrated propulsion power & thermal management systems, advanced material systems, and other breakthrough component and system technologies to support the future of military flight.
The APD – Mechanical Design Staff Engineer will plan & lead elements of the mechanical design and development for an Edison Works New Product Introduction (NPI) program as an experienced technical expert in Hot Structural Component Design and Sub-Team leader. The Staff Engineer will lead initiatives and sub-system teams by lending a depth of expertise or breadth of experience to less experienced teammates. Additional responsibilities may include direct hardware ownership as well as mentoring in the areas of mechanical design fundamentals, finite element analysis, test, GD&T, producibility, and engine certification. This is a role for someone with established technical and programmatic engineering skills who not only understands how to increase their impact by building the capabilities of the team - but can also “lead by doing.” This position reports to an engineering manager in Evendale, OH with the opportunity to integrate with various internal & external engineering disciplines.
This is a role for someone with a passion for engineering who has experience with the design process and can develop a strategy for success when confronted with a technical challenge. A Staff Engineer does not work alone and must be able to focus, guide, and develop teams by setting goals, championing initiatives, and providing mentorship for the broader team. As a Sub-Team leader for hardware owners in the Mechanical Design Subsection, you will not only utilize core engineer skills including 3D modeling, finite element analysis, high cycle & low cycle fatigue assessments, mechanical stack-ups and drawing definition release but also manage priority across multiple cross functional teams and in turn manage the impact on cost and schedule.
Teams in the Advanced Programs space are fueled by a love of aviation and a sense of purpose to support our military customers. We solve hard problems by pulling concepts from the science & technology realm into the world of applied engineering. Whether it’s composites design, aeromechanics, additive manufacturing, manufacturing support or test - this role is a guaranteed opportunity to grow your skillset. The harder the problem - the harder we push, building on a legacy of engineering excellence to invent the future of flight.
