What You’ll Do

The Citrix Systems Engineer is a senior-level technical role responsible for the design, engineering, implementation, and support of Citrix virtualization environments. This includes Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix Cloud, Citrix ADC, and related Windows-based infrastructure. The engineer will lead projects, develop and enforce Citrix architecture standards, and provide escalation support for critical incidents and performance tuning efforts. The role involves working across IT domains including automation, server administration, virtualization, storage, security, and cloud technologies, with a primary emphasis on Citrix environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and maintain Citrix environments (Citrix Virtual Apps/Desktops, Citrix Cloud, Citrix Gateway/ADC).
  • Perform system upgrades and patching of Citrix infrastructure and tools.
  • Implement best practices for VMware virtual machines, clusters, and storage.
  • Develop Citrix policies, manage images with MCS or PVS, and maintain user profiles with Citrix Profile Management.
  • Monitor and analyze Citrix performance and usage statistics to proactively identify issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot virtual infrastructure issues and manage support escalation with Citrix vendors.
  • POC and implement new Citrix solutions.
  • Lead infrastructure projects from conception through implementation related to Citrix and virtualization platforms.
  • Support business initiatives through Citrix solution architecture and integration.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning through replication and backup technologies (e.g., Veeam, Zerto).
  • Provide architectural design recommendations and contribute to enterprise infrastructure strategy and planning.
  • Participate in the development of virtual infrastructure roadmaps and project delivery.
  • Provide technical documentation, SOPs, and support runbooks.
  • Deliver reports on health, usage trends, and performance metrics.
  • Support and collaborate with System and Storage Administrators to ensure end-to-end system performance.
  • Implement and maintain security configurations for Citrix environments in alignment with NIST, HIPAA, and internal security policies.
  • Conduct regular system audits and vulnerability scans in Citrix environments.
  • Mentor System Administrators in Citrix technologies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with network, storage, and application teams to ensure system availability and performance.
  • Collaborate with other teams for virtualized server provisioning, disaster recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Develop knowledge base articles and training for Tier 1 staff.
  • Provide escalation support and resolve complex Citrix-related incidents.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for virtual infrastructure support.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes for recurring issues.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in IT or related field (or 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).
  • Minimum 6 years of experience supporting Citrix platforms in an enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and support enterprise-scale Citrix solutions.
  • Experience with server hardware (Cisco UCS preferred) and Windows/Linux OS.
  • Proficiency in Citrix Virtual Apps/Desktops, Citrix Cloud, Citrix Gateway/ADC, and related Citrix products.

Preferred Requirements

  • Citrix Certified Professional (CCP)
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA)
