Mechanical Field Application Engineer – Connected Mobility Solutions

Our Team

We are seeking a talented and driven Mechanical Field application Engineer / mechanical Engineer to join our Connected Mobility Solutions team in Japan. In this role, you will play a key part in designing and supporting cutting-edge automotive USB modules and wireless chargers. You will work closely with Japanese OEMs, global Molex teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions and ensure the highest level of technical support.

What You will Do

Customer Collaboration:

  • Lead technical discussions with Japanese OEMs for new product proposals, issue resolution, and technical support.
  • Prepare and deliver engineering documents in alignment with Japanese OEM requirements.

Design Support:

  • Develop and support the design of automotive USB modules and wireless chargers.
  • Create and manage engineering drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), 3D models, test plans, and other technical deliverables.

Global Coordination:

  • Collaborate with Molex engineering teams across North America, Europe, China, and India to ensure alignment and project success.

Support Functions:

  • Work closely with Molex Sales and Business Development teams to support current products.
  • Assist in the preparation and reporting of environmental testing.
  • Contribute to lighting design and simulation activities.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise for RFIs (Request for Information) and RFQs (Request for Quotes) for Japanese OEMs.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience in automotive customer-facing engineering solutions.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in mechanical engineering design.

Skills:

  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to explain complex concepts logically in native-level Japanese.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools for mechanical design.
  • Innovative thinking with a big-picture mindset, coupled with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and results driven.

Travel:

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (e.g., to the US, China, and India), with travel accounting for 5–10% of the role.

Language Requirements

  • Japanese: Native-level fluency (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension).
  • English: Business-level proficiency.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience leading mechanical design projects for major automotive companies such as Nissan, Toyota, or Honda.
  • Familiarity with USB design, specifications, and standards.
  • Expertise in mechanical simulation and analysis tools.
