Main Purpose:

The incumbent is required to provide supervision of all operational and administrative activities within the Terminal to ensure standard operating procedures for bulk or pack product handling, storage and distribution are strictly adhered to. The incumbent is also required to ensure all plant and equipment on site are maintained and serviced according to preventative maintenance schedule and that operations are conducted in line with the Company’s Safety policies.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Terminal employees and planning man-power allocation for tasks to be carried out each day.
  • Review and sign off on daily inventory movement reports. Lead investigation into any stock variance identified.
  • Lead daily pre-start or safety meetings, including toolbox talks and discussions.
  • Source and provide quotes to Cashier for tools, materials and equipment required for daily/frequent use by Operators or maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Prepare work orders and perform Job Safety Analysis to ensure work with the Terminal is scheduled and performed in compliance with safety standards.
  • Coordinate with contractors for any maintenance activity at the Terminal based on programs previously determined through the preventative maintenance schedule or management of change process.
  • Issue permits for all minor or major non-routine/maintenance activities on site.
  • Participate in training courses scheduled by the Terminal Manager of the site, as well as in all contingency drills.
  • Maintain a current tracker of tanktainer assets leased by Puma Energy and provide weekly status updates to Operations Management
  • Coordinate all isotainer maintenance and repairs in liaison with Maintenance department
  • Conduct regular competency based training of staff on site.
  • Contribute to regular process improvement reviews of Terminal operations through participation in Operations Analysis
  • Adhere to and lead the implementation and compliance to business systems relating to SAPS, HSEC and Quality and other company policies.

Safety:

Lead daily Pre-start, safety talks and tool box meetings

Complete Take 5 self-risk assessment daily as required by SAPS

Complete delegated SAPS activities accurately and on time

Actively participate in monthly Safety Steering Committee Meetings

Actively participate in Terminal’s Emergency Response exercises

Manage timely submission of all HSSE reporting weekly/monthly/annually

Report all incidences immediately to Terminal Supervisor or Terminal Manager

Adhere to 5 Golden Rules and 10 Safety Laws on site

People:

Complete all required competencies for Terminal Operations Supervisor role identified via Training Needs Analysis

Punctual attendance daily and when rostered outside of normal working hours

Demonstrate visible leadership

Conduct CBT training on Operators

Supervise team – recognize good behavior, manage bad behavior

Provide training/refresher sessions with Operators

Perform periodic staff performance reviews

Customer:

Manage efficient Terminal bunker and drum supply operations

Maintain quality product supply to customers as per product guaranteed specification

Minimise equipment downtime

Accurately compile and submit reports within set deadlines

Operational Excellence:

Maintain up-to-date OPSAN on all Terminal operational activities

Review and sign off on all product movement registers daily

Supervise critical operations on site

Financials:

Manage efficient unpacking of containers to achieve NIL container demurrage costs

Manage accurate reporting of product movement and tank dips to minimize instances of high variances over tolerance limits

Minimise reject drum stock

Manage slops volume on hand

  • Any discrepancies of goods / services received are to be addressed through the Non-Conformance procedures.
  • All products are to be verified at appropriate stages as outlined in procedures and a record maintained.
