The Architect – Instructional Data Integrations designs, builds, and maintains student data integrations between Houston ISD’s SIS and a broad set of instructional and operational platforms. This includes ensuring student rosters, grades, program data, and attendance records flow accurately into learning systems, assessment platforms, and state-mandated applications. The Architect works closely with both technical and academic teams to build secure, automated, and scalable data solutions that support instructional excellence.
1. Develop and maintain integrations between SIS and instructional platforms (LMS, assessment tools, special programs).
2. Write and manage scripts or ETL tools that prepare and deliver student data for external systems.
3. Ensure data mappings and formats meet vendor and district requirements.
4. Monitor integration jobs and alerts, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance.
5 Document technical processes, schemas, and dependencies for team and vendor use.
6. Partner with academic teams to validate data requirements and support onboarding of new tools.
7. Collaborate with security and governance staff to uphold FERPA and HISD privacy requirements.
8. Support real-time rostering, daily syncs, and critical grading or reporting deadlines.
9. Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architectural planning.
10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent combination of education and at least five (5) years of relevant experience.
Minimum of 5 years in data integration, SIS support, or software development. Prior experience in education systems preferred.
Works independently and may coordinate with junior team members or vendors. Collaborates closely with analysts and architects.
Solves moderate to complex data integration issues. Apply judgment to ensure data accuracy, usability, and compliance.
None. May provide input on tools and platforms used to support integrations.
Diagnoses integration errors, data mismatches, or failed deliveries and implements secure, scalable fixes.
Impacts the accessibility and accuracy of instructional tools used by thousands of teachers and students.
Coordinates with application owners, academics, SIS administrators, and vendors. Participate in cross-functional planning.
Supports teachers, students, and instructional leaders by ensuring seamless digital learning experiences through accurate system integrations.
Office work environment. May require extended hours during integration launches, SIS transitions, or academic year rollovers, hybrid setting available.
