We are seeking an innovative Mechanical Developer to join our R&D team in the development of embedded systems for use in medical devices.

As part of a dynamic, cross-functional development team, you will be responsible for researching, planning, designing, and developing prototype systems and products that are both robust and manufacturable.

In this role, you will design parts, assemblies, and enclosures for electronic medical equipment, driving mechanical designs from concept through prototyping, testing, and transition to production. You will also take ownership of continuous improvement initiatives related to existing designs, manufacturing processes, and tooling.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Design plastic and metal instrument components, ensuring timely development of parts and assemblies.
  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, optimizing quality, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, industrial designers, and cross-functional teams (R&D, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales & Marketing) to integrate inputs and align on design objectives.
  • Conduct tolerance analysis, First Article Inspections, and design verification testing to ensure product integrity.
  • Develop functional prototypes, perform applied research, and document findings to support development and verification.
  • Prepare and oversee manufacturing, assembly, and test documentation for new product introductions.
  • Interface with vendors and external resources to refine designs, resolve technical issues, and support production readiness.
  • Travel as needed to troubleshoot supplier-related challenges.
  • Support additional project tasks as required.

Education and Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of design experience in medical devices, complex industrial products, or consumer electronics.
  • Skilled in developing complex, robust CAD models, including surfaces, solids, and assemblies.
  • Experienced in creating detailed engineering drawings that clearly convey design intent through proper dimensioning, tolerancing, and layout.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (2009 and 1994 standards).

Desired Characteristics/Additional Assets:

  • Proficient in PTC Creo for mechanical CAD design.
  • Experience with high-volume injection-molded plastic part design and mechanical packaging of electronic components.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle and requirements management tools such as Aras (PLM) and Polarion (ARM).
  • Strong attention to detail with a passion for creating attractive, functional, and manufacturable products.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a strong ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams while proactively communicating project status, progress, and blockers to stakeholders to support timely reviews and informed decisions.
