About the Role

The Executive Director of Technology Strategy for the Professional division will develop and execute technology strategies to establish Harman Professional as a leader in audio, video, control and lighting solutions. This role bridges technical innovation with business objectives to ensure that technology investments deliver value, maintaining a competitive edge in the professional AV industry. In addition, this role serves as an external thought leader within the Professional AV industry with the ability to effectively shape opinions and thinking ensuring the business maintains a strong voice in the industries we serve.

Distinct from Product Management and Engineering leadership, this role focuses on cross-brand, ecosystem-level decisions. It enhances customer experience by ensuring seamless integration across the Harman Professional ecosystem. This position provides a long-term, cross-product technology perspective that aligns business strategy with product implementation, ultimately reducing long-term costs and ensuring competitive advantage.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive technology strategy and roadmap aligned with Harman Professional's business objectives in the professional audio, video, and lighting markets
  • Identify emerging technologies in professional AV and evaluate their potential impact on our product portfolio and service offerings
  • Lead technology assessment initiatives for audio, video, and lighting solutions and provide recommendations for adoption or investment
  • Partner with C-suite executives to translate business goals into technology strategies that enhance our professional AV ecosystem
  • Actively influence industry standards and practices through participating in industry bodies and consortiums
  • Guide digital transformation initiatives across our audio, video, and lighting product lines
  • Establish governance frameworks for technology investments, ensuring alignment with industry standards and customer requirements
  • Oversee technology portfolio management and prioritization processes for our integrated systems solutions
  • Build relationships with technology vendors, partners, and industry thought leaders in the professional AV space
  • Identify and negotiate strategic technology partnerships with key industry players and providers
  • Develops pipeline of academic and research partnerships with the ability to commission research and projects where needed with outside partners
  • Lead strategic technology planning sessions with key stakeholders, including product management and engineering teams
  • Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of technology initiatives in delivering value to professional AV customers
  • Mentor and develop team members in strategic thinking and planning within the context of professional audio, video, and lighting technologies

What You Need to Be Successful

  • Master's degree in Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 15+ years of experience in technology leadership roles, with relevant experience in the professional audio, video, lighting, or related industries
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful technology strategies and solutions
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align technology initiatives with business goals in competitive market environments
  • Experience leading cross-functional transformation initiatives and driving adoption of new technologies
  • Deep understanding of emerging technologies and trends specifically in the professional audio, video, and lighting market segments
  • Knowledge of integrated systems design, networked audio, video-over-IP, and digital lighting control technologies
  • Experience with live sound reinforcement, broadcast, recording, venue technology, or entertainment lighting systems is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Experience in technology vendor management and partnership development specific to AV technologies

Bonus Points if You Have

  • PhD in Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.

  • Willingness to travel up to 30% both internationally and domestically.
  • Due to the nature of global infrastructure, you understand that flexibility in working hours is required.
  • Be willing to work in an office in Northridge, CA.
