Role: Assistant Controller
Salary: $140,000 - $170,000/annually
Location: New York City – On-site 5 days a week
About the Role: Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Controller to join their team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in accounting who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys working across a variety of operational and financial functions. This person MUST have a background in public accounting. A mix of public/private experience is ideal. CPA or CPA track.
Responsibilities:
- Generate and distribute daily performance summaries for a major client.
- Perform daily cash reconciliations between brokerage platforms and internal portfolio systems.
- Conduct monthly reconciliations for brokerage accounts tied to separately managed portfolios.
- Review and reconcile monthly NAV statements from fund administrators.
- Manage monthly bank reconciliations for the management company.
- Oversee the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Process vendor invoices and ensure timely payments.
- Support a recurring alternative investment reporting project for a high-net-worth client.
- Assist in the preparation and review of quarterly reports for managed accounts.
- Create and issue quarterly and annual billing schedules and invoices for both managed accounts and family office clients.
- Update valuations for alternative investments based on capital activity and fund statements.
- Prepare and distribute capital statements and investor letters for private equity vehicles.
- Draft annual financial statements and supporting documentation for fund audits.
- Coordinate with external auditors and compile necessary documentation for custody audits.
- Support the Controller with general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Generate ad-hoc financial reports for the research and portfolio management teams.
- Assist with trade execution and post-trade reconciliation for managed accounts.
- Investigate and resolve trade discrepancies between brokers and custodians.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or CPA track preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience within asset management, financial services, or public accounting.
- Public accounting experience is a must have.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency with accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, Advent, or similar).
- Advanced Excel capabilities, including financial modeling and data analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
