Client: Financial Services – Asset Management Firm

Role: Assistant Controller

Salary: $140,000 - $170,000/annually

Location: New York City – On-site 5 days a week

About the Role: Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Controller to join their team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in accounting who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys working across a variety of operational and financial functions. This person MUST have a background in public accounting. A mix of public/private experience is ideal. CPA or CPA track.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate and distribute daily performance summaries for a major client.
  • Perform daily cash reconciliations between brokerage platforms and internal portfolio systems.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations for brokerage accounts tied to separately managed portfolios.
  • Review and reconcile monthly NAV statements from fund administrators.
  • Manage monthly bank reconciliations for the management company.
  • Oversee the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable processes.
  • Process vendor invoices and ensure timely payments.
  • Support a recurring alternative investment reporting project for a high-net-worth client.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of quarterly reports for managed accounts.
  • Create and issue quarterly and annual billing schedules and invoices for both managed accounts and family office clients.
  • Update valuations for alternative investments based on capital activity and fund statements.
  • Prepare and distribute capital statements and investor letters for private equity vehicles.
  • Draft annual financial statements and supporting documentation for fund audits.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and compile necessary documentation for custody audits.
  • Support the Controller with general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Generate ad-hoc financial reports for the research and portfolio management teams.
  • Assist with trade execution and post-trade reconciliation for managed accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve trade discrepancies between brokers and custodians.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or CPA track preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience within asset management, financial services, or public accounting.
  • Public accounting experience is a must have.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency with accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, Advent, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, including financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
