Level 4:

  • Estimated annual base pay: $78,000.00 (minimum) - $97,500.00 (midpoint) - $117,000.00 (maximum)

Level 5:

  • Estimated annual base pay: $86,000.00 (minimum) - $107,500.00 (midpoint) - $129,000.00 (maximum)

Are you ready to make your mark? If you’re a Senior Mechanical Designer, we have an exciting opportunity for you. This Senior Mechanical Designer role is responsible for product definition quality assurance and providing authoritative guidance on the application of internal and external industry design standards.

What You Will Be Doing

Level 4:

  • Understands, applies, and provides expert consultation on Geometric Dimension & Tolerancing or International equivalent at an expert level
  • Must have a working proficiency with mechanical engineering and aerospace industry standards
  • Must be able to perform advanced level linear and radial stackup studies
  • Presents instruction to the Woodward engineering and designer community on relevant topics regarding best-in-class design practices
  • Assures proper adherence to industry and internal engineering and design standards to Woodward product definition and demonstrates keen ability to check drawings and models to industry and internal engineering and design standards.
  • Must be able to understand technical influences on the design(s), knowing the right questions to ask
  • Ability to support critical customer design reviews
  • An understanding of fundamental engineering principles (heat transfer, fluid mechanics, materials)
  • Familiarity with Model Based Definition and Semantic PMI

Level 5:

  • An understanding of fundamental engineering principles (heat transfer, fluid mechanics, materials)
  • Familiarity with Model Based Definition and Semantic PMI
  • Must be able to have technical influences on the design(s), knowing the right questions to ask
  • Develops design templates and other tools to enhance CAD quality assurance

What We Are Looking For

Level 4:

  • US-Associate’s Degree – 2-year technical degree or certificate
  • US-Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) preferred
  • At least 7 years of designer experience or combination of Bachelor’s degree required
  • Expert CAD and checking skills in one or more CAD software and computer skills including ERP systems. May have ability to do low level FEA using CAD tools. Model Based Definition experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and professionalism. Ability to leverage industry and internal design standards to develop tools, guidance, and quality assurance for Woodward designs. Identify continuous improvement activities to improve efficiencies or work. May own a greenbelt designation or equivalent experience with quality management systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and customers and provide mentoring, instruction, and consultation to engineering and design staff. Good English communication skills for non-native English staff
  • The ability to process multiple types of information and/or perform multiple tasks simultaneously with competing priorities. Practices effective time management
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and planning skills, not only for self but for those supported by this position
  • The ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team. The ability to reinforce positive teamwork
  • The ability to define, diagnose, and resolve problems with a significant organizational impact. Must also have the ability to make decisions and collaborate with key members in a timely manner, sometimes with limited information and under tight deadlines and pressure
  • The ability to mentor and provide assistance and design quality control to lower-level drafters/designers and engineers
  • The ability and willingness to take independent action and complete assignments with little to no instruction. This includes the ability and willingness to recognize assignments or tasks that need to be completed, anticipate the needs of those this position supports, seek out additional assignments, and to help others

Level 5:

  • US Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) required
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Expert CAD and checking skills in one or more CAD softwares and computer skills including ERP systems. Ability to use FEA modules within CAD software(s) to determine validity to design. Model Based Definition experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and professionalism. Ability to leverage industry and internal design standards to develop tools, guidance, and quality assurance for Woodward designs. Ability to look broadly throughout the organization and identify continuous improvement activities to set the standards for other designer/drafters. May own Green or Black belt designations or equivalent experience with quality management systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and customers and provide mentoring, instruction, and consultation to engineering and design staff. Good English communication skills for non-native English staff
  • The ability to process multiple types of information and/or perform multiple tasks simultaneously with competing priorities. Practices effective time management
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and planning skills, not only for self but for those supported by this position
  • The ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team. This includes the innate ability to be flexible. Ownership of reinforcing positive teamwork
  • The ability to define, diagnose, and resolve problems with an immediate organizational impact. Must also have the ability to make decisions and collaborate with key members in a timely manner, sometimes with limited information and under tight deadlines and pressure
  • The ability to mentor and provide assistance and design quality control to lower-level drafters/designers and engineers. Demonstrated ability on a day-to-day basis to effectively balance workload for a design group. Excellent technical/project leadership skills required to lead others effectively and gain cooperation.
  • The ability and willingness to take independent action and complete assignments with little to no instruction. This includes the ability and willingness to recognize assignments or tasks that need to be completed, anticipate the needs of those this position supports, seek out additional assignments, and to help others
