Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Instructor / Assistant Professor – Teaching, Department of Accounting (F97673) at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

The Department of Accounting at Wayne State University’s Mike Ilitch School of Business is seeking to fill a non-tenured track teaching faculty position for Fall 2025.

  • Teach 4 (per semester) undergraduate/graduate courses
  • Manage assessment and Student progress with a Learning Management System (Canvas).
  • Maintain and adapt curriculum that is current, effective, and appropriate to course and program competencies. Instruct students in a classroom, online, and/or hybrid setting.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a graduate degree (e.g., MSA, MBA, or PhD). Those with a PhD in Accounting will be considered for appointment as an Assistant Professor – Teaching. An ideal candidate will hold a CPA or other relevant professional certification.

Minimum three years’ accounting teaching experience, including graduate courses. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. A demonstrated commitment to supporting student learnings and developmental experiences.

Desirable experience and job duties:

  • Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, maintaining faculty qualifications in accordance with AACSB standards, and actively participating in teaching-focused service.
  • Flexibility in teaching areas, including financial, managerial, and taxation field, with in-person and online teaching formats.
  • Management of learning activities at the college level and contribution to initiatives that support the program’s growth and mission. Mentoring students is also an essential component of the role.
