We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior GIS Substation Design Engineer to join our growing team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the detailed design and layout of Gas-Insulated Substations (GIS) for significant infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive expertise in GIS design principles, relevant software proficiency, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality and safe designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute the detailed design and layout of Gas-Insulated Substations (GIS), including the development of single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
  • Prepare comprehensive equipment specifications for all GIS components and auxiliary systems.
  • Design effective grounding systems for GIS substations.
  • Utilize software tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ETAP (or similar) for substation design, layout, and protection and control studies.
  • Apply an in-depth understanding of the characteristics, application, and technical specifications of various GIS equipment, including circuit breakers, disconnectors, instrument transformers, and surge arresters.
  • Develop and implement substation protection and control philosophies, ensuring proper relay coordination and the design of robust protection schemes for GIS substations.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant international standards (IEC, IEEE) and local regulations (e.g., Saudi Arabian standards).
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning procedures for GIS substations.
  • Analyze complex technical issues related to GIS substation design and operation, developing and implementing effective solutions.
  • Effectively coordinate with civil, structural, and other electrical engineering disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare technical specifications for GIS equipment and provide technical support during the procurement process.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety regulations and quality assurance procedures in all design activities.

Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in the detailed design and layout of Gas-Insulated Substations (GIS).
  • Proven expertise in using software tools for substation design, layout, and protection and control (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, or similar).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the characteristics and application of various GIS equipment.
  • Solid understanding of substation protection and control philosophies and the design of protection schemes for GIS substations.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant international (IEC, IEEE) and local (e.g., Saudi Arabian standards) codes and regulations.
  • Familiarity with the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of GIS substations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proven track record of resolving complex technical issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience in preparing technical specifications and providing procurement support.
  • A strong commitment to safety and quality in all aspects of design.
