CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Department of Engineering Technology at Queensborough Community College is seeking to fill a full-time College Laboratory Technician position.

Reporting to the Chief CLT, the College Laboratory Technician, in addition to the general duties, will be responsible for the following:

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of mechanical engineering lab equipment to support academic coursework and experiments.
  • Utilize software such as SolidWorks, Mastercam, and Predator to assist with design, modeling, and manufacturing processes.
  • Assist with the fabrication and maintainance of laboratory experiment components, supplies, and instrument setups.
  • Collaborate with faculty to assess laboratory equipment needs and procure or update tools and materials.
  • Maintain and organize lab spaces to ensure safety, hygiene, and operational standards.
  • Assist with the delivery of technical training and support to students and staff.
  • Prepare laboratory setups, test equipment, and assist with technical support during lab sessions.
  • Document equipment usage, maintenance schedules, and lab activity logs.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design and develop practical lab exercises related to mechanical engineering principles.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized working environment.
  • Assist with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining processes, including CNC G-code programming and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekend and evenings as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Experience working with mechanical systems, tools, and equipment used in mechanical engineering labs.
  • Proficiency in operating equipment such as: Manual Lathe Machine, Manual Milling Machine, Drill Press, Horizontal/Vertical Band Saw, Shaper Machine, CNC Lathe Machine and CNC Milling Machine, 3D Printer.
  • Experience in repairing or maintaining mechanical engineering equipment such as CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, Laser Engraver, 3D printers, and basic hand tools.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

COMPENSATION

$52,037 - $61,461 ( Salary range reflects 4/1/24 rates per the PSC/CUNY Collective Bargaining Agreement)

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
