About the Opportunity: Intern Bridge Engineer – UAE National

Our Transportation group employs more than 8,000 professionals who support clients with innovative solutions to efficiently move people and goods across the globe. We focus our efforts on Aviation, Bridge, Highway, Ports & Maritime, Planning Services, Transit& Rail and Tunnels.

Jacobs Dubai is renowned for the excellence of our technical consulting and project delivery expertise in the Transport Infrastructure sector. With a variety of current projects and a strong pipeline we are seeking to recruit a Student Bridge Engineer who is looking for a challenge working in multidisciplinary teams on Highways and Bridges projects. This role will see you build relationships and develop smart offerings through design innovation for Jacobs.

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The principal function of this role is as a student engineer to assist other engineers on bridge structures engineering projects in the APME region and to learn from the experience gained. The learning of the student is as important as the work undertaken on projects, plus the long-term goal to retain the person as a longer-term employee following university studies. The position demands a mature attitude and willingness to participate/learn. Someone who can be independent and with strong team participation skills is required, given they will be based in the Middle East for 6 months to 1 year.

Would be expected to work under the supervision and guidance of experienced Senior Bridge engineers.

The key priorities in this role will include but not be limited to:

  • Strong Interest in Structural and Bridge engineering design. Ambition to have a long-term career in this field.
  • Basic understanding of design methods and calculations, design drawings, technical Report writing.
  • Strong outside interests and ability to operate in team events.

Here's what you'll need

Job Requirements/Qualifications/Experiences

The minimum qualifications for this position include:

  • Enrolled in suitable civil or structural engineering degree and can demonstrate good grades to date. Awareness of professional development and an interest to become Chartered in the future would be seen as an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Bridge/Structural engineering softwares- Midas, AutoDesk Structural Bridge Design etc
  • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling)
  • Student member of Institution of Civil Engineers (or similar) would be an advantage.
  • Prior work experience in similar field (part-time/summer jobs, etc.) may be considered and advantage.

  • Commitment and motivation to participate and learn
  • Personal planning and organization
  • Confident in communication with high level of spoken and written English
