Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. One year of experience in a related field. Experience in student services, event planning, admissions, recruitment, marketing, or related areas preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Performs semi-complex administrative program work for Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Admissions Recruitment. Develops and implements strategic engagement initiatives to support prospective, applied, and admitted students as they navigate their journey to Sam Houston State University (SHSU).
Primary Responsibilities
Designs, coordinates, and evaluates virtual and in-person programs that guide prospective and admitted students through the college decision and enrollment process. Develops and expands the Family Zoom Series to include sessions for prospective families (choosing a college, applying to SHSU) and admitted families (checklist completion, next steps). Launches and leads a student-facing Zoom series focused on peer connection, transition tips, and authentic student stories. Manages the SHSU ZeeMee student platform, including daily engagement, hosting virtual events, developing content aligned with student interests, and maintaining consistent student outreach. Oversees the New Student Mentor team of student workers, including hiring, training, and supervision. Creates and curates student-focused digital content for Instagram and ZeeMee, ensuring age-appropriate, engaging, and brand-aligned messaging. Serves as the primary coordinator for all special event registration processes in the Admissions Office. (E.g. Partner office events like college webinars, alumni events, etc.) Leads project management efforts for large-scale off-campus recruitment events in the fall, including logistics, communication, and day-of execution. Provides guidance to students and families related to the accepted student checklist (Including but not limited to financial aid, housing, TSI, orientation, registration, etc.) and overall college transition. Provides departmental or University information to students, departments, and staff. Maintains and updates technology platforms and websites related to new student engagement. Prepares and analyzes reports on program effectiveness and student engagement data. Recommends program guidelines, procedures, polices, rules, and regulations. Responsible for collaborating with campus partners to assist with programming including but not limited to support events and initiatives such as high school visits, campus tours, Saturday@SAM, Preview days, and other recruitment programming. Responsible for technology needs related to business function. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to supervise business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies. This position enhances the student experience through intentional outreach, virtual and in-person programming, digital engagement, and peer mentorship – serving students and their families from initial interest through enrollment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for student engagement. Experience working with digital platforms and social media (ZeeMee, Instagram, Zoom). Demonstrated ability to lead student teams and coordinate large-scale projects. Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and overnight travel to/for events as needed. Experience developing programs for both high school and college-age students. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
