Summary

The Production Assistant Intern handles, inspects, and counts railcar parts. They also assist Production Operators in operating equipment used to manufacture or test railcar parts and other manufacturing processes while supporting equipment setup, operation, and testing.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Handles, inspects, and counts railcar parts.
  • Assists Production Operators in operating equipment used to manufacture or test railcar parts and other manufacturing processes.
  • Works with hand tools to test parts, scrape slag, grind edges and other manufacturing processes.
  • Cleans parts and equipment to specified standards
  • Supports equipment setup, operation, and testing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a participating high school with the Greenbrier Companies High School Internship program
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA at time of application and must maintain 2.0 GPA throughout duration of the internship.
  • Ability and willingness to wear PPE including but not limited to hard hat, hearing protection, composite toe safety shoes, and any other PPA appropriate for the specific area the Production Assistant Intern may be working.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment

This job is in a production facility where the physical environment requires the employee to work in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid, dusty conditions, noise, moving machinery and trip hazards. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment as environmental conditions dictate, including but not limited to the following:

  • Hearing Protection
  • Composite Toe Safety Shoes
  • Harness/lanyard

Intern may be required to perform work at heights above four feet or within confined spaces.

Some work areas may require the use of a respirator while working. Employees working in these areas must be able to pass a respirator fit test and be clean-shaven while wearing a respirator.
