Your role

Do you know how to find and tell original stories about the economy, business, markets, and consumer trends? Can you explain concepts like free trade, economic specialization, and break down the impact of a change in the Bank of Canada’s key interest rate?

Radio-Canada’s team in Toronto is looking for an economic reporter with creativity, critical thinking, and strong initiative. We’re seeking someone who can analyze a wide range of economic topics and present their work in an innovative digital format — whether in text, audio, or video.

In this role, you will produce content tied to daily economic news as well as original stories for digital platforms. You’ll be expected to simplify complex concepts and provide clear explanations to help our audience better understand the impact of various economic events.

You remain calm in the face of uncertainty and rapidly changing market conditions. You work to confirm and interpret constantly evolving news. You're always looking for ways to improve our economic coverage to meet the changing needs of our audience.

Your profile:

  • University degree in journalism or equivalent, with at least three (3) years of recent and relevant experience in economic journalism
  • Ability to generate, pitch, and produce strong story ideas, primarily for digital platforms
  • Strong ability to build connections within the business community
  • Proven professional ethics in diverse team environments
  • Advanced knowledge of economic current affairs, audience expectations, and industry trends
  • Experience in validating, editing, fact-checking, and formatting economic news content
  • Skills in mathematics and data analysis are an asset
  • Ability to write news stories based on interviews or live-streamed events, filling in gaps as needed
  • Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities across all Radio-Canada platforms
  • Strong journalistic judgment and ability to work effectively under pressure in a newsroom environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong team spirit
  • Ability to develop original, proactive journalism
  • A valid driver’s licence and a driving record that meets CBC/Radio-Canada’s minimum insurance requirements are assets
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • Knowledge of audio and video editing software is an asset

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
