Job Description:
- The Mechanical Engineer SR 1 position requires 10+ years of related experience and an accredited bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- A professional engineer license is desired.
Responsibilities:
- Job responsibilities include mechanical engineering designs on small and medium retrofit, environmental, and new generation projects.
- Leading in conducting mechanical design activities including pipe sizing and routing, material selection, pipe support design, valve selection, P&ID development, equipment layout, equipment specifications, and hydraulic calculations.
- Developing datasheets for valves and other equipment.
- Providing technical direction to designers, developing project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Making sound independent decisions with minimal information and assisting in checkout and startup of systems when necessary.
Skillsets:
- Skillsets and expertise required for this position include significant experience with design of new construction and/or retrofit of power generation or heavy industrial facilities and the ability to take the lead role for detailed design activities.
- Significant knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles, proficiency with applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in development, preparation and checking of P&IDs.
- Experience with overall design and layout of piping systems, pipe sizing and routing, material selection, pipe support design, equipment selection, preparation of inquiry packages/data sheets, and specification of tanks, pumps, and balance of plant equipment, experience with hydraulic calculations.
- Pipe-Flo (or similar software) experience is preferred.
- Significant working knowledge of processes equipment including piping, valves (manual/control/relief), pumps, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers.
- Experience with relief valve and control sizing, and the ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff and/or vendors.
