About Us
A profitable, family-run, growing group of companies in the Industrial Packaging and Distribution space. Proudly Canadian and proudly entrepreneurial, under our banner sit four dynamic divisions.
We serve customers across North America, but our core operations and leadership are based in Canada. With over 50 team members and a tightly run finance team, we're scaling our business while maintaining our collaborative, down-to-earth culture.
How We Work
Finance is here to serve the business. We move fast, value initiative, and expect everyone to be hands-on when it counts and smart in their leadership.
This role will report to the VP Finance and oversee all four company divisions, taking ownership of month-end reporting, cost of goods sold analysis, and high-volume transactions. You’ll lead the day-to-day operations of a small AP/AR team and will be empowered to delegate effectively.
We want someone energetic, detail-obsessed, loves diving into the numbers and ready to make an impact. You'll fit right in if you come from a medium-sized company background and know what it means to wear multiple hats.
About You
You’re a Controller with 3+ years of management experience, ideally in a distribution or product-based business. You’re not just fluent in numbers, you love them. You can spot anomalies in a flash, clean up processes without breaking a sweat, and you know how to bring structure to complexity.
As Controller, you will bring stability, structure, and insight to our financial and administrative functions while playing a key role in supporting next-stage growth. You're ready to manage people, not just processes. You've led AP/AR teams, thrive in high-volume environments, and don’t need a Big 4 badge to prove your worth; your track record speaks louder.
You bring:
- Experience leading month-end reporting across multiple divisions (ex. Balance sheet, income and cash flow statements)
- Experience overseeing the month-end (and year-end) close process
- Full Life Cycle Accounting: with a strong grasp of Cost of Goods Sold, Inventory accounting (ex. Usage forecasting and capital planning), and Tax Filings.
- Prior management of small teams (AP/AR or Bookkeeping), including mentoring finance team members to enhance their skills and knowledge
- A collaborative, approachable style: you communicate clearly, delegate well, and keep the energy positive
- Familiarity with Epicor Prophet 21 (or similar ERP) is a nice plus
- Experience in industrial packaging or distribution is helpful (but not required)
Qualifications:
- 3 to 5+ years of experience as a Controller or in a senior accounting/finance leadership role
- 7+ years of Accounting and Finance experience
- Experience managing the month-end close process across multiple entities/divisions
- Proven ability to lead day-to-day accounting operations and manage a small team (AP/AR, GL/Bookkeeping)
- Solid understanding of Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), inventory accounting, and working in product-based or distribution environments
- Demonstrated experience working with high-volume transactions
- Proficiency with ERP systems (experience with Epicor Prophet 21 is a bonus)
- CPA/CMA/CA designation (or in-progress) is preferred
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, and internal audit practices
- Comfortable handling cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and budget vs. actual variance analysis
- Prior involvement in year-end audits, liaising with external auditors and tax advisors
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling)
- Ability to assess and implement process improvements for more efficient financial operations
- Comfortable operating in a medium-sized business with a hands-on and entrepreneurial culture
- Strong communication skills, able to clearly explain financial matters to non-finance teams
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple demands across entities
- Bonus points for:
- Exposure to Canadian and U.S. operations
- Experience with system migrations or ERP implementations
- Background in distribution, logistics, or manufacturing
