The Department of Psychology at Iowa State University invites applications for part-time (50%) Assistant Teaching Professor position beginning August 16, 2025. We seek a skilled clinician and educator who will direct our departmental training clinic and contribute to our graduate training program in counseling psychology through clinical supervision and specialized coursework.
Position responsibilities include directing the departmental training clinic, supervising graduate student clinical work, providing supervision for graduate students placed in external practicum settings, and teaching one graduate-level counseling course per semester in their area of expertise (e.g., cognitive assessment, personality assessment, ethics, or other specialized topics within counseling psychology). There may be opportunities to teach additional graduate counseling courses and undergraduate psychology courses based on departmental needs and the candidate's interest. Opportunities to contribute to program development, serve on student committees, and to work with other university units would be available based on candidate's interests.
Candidates must hold a master’s degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or a closely related field and be licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in the state of Iowa (with the expectation of becoming licensed in Iowa within a year). We seek someone with demonstrated excellence in clinical supervision and teaching at the graduate level, expertise in one or more specialized areas of counseling psychology, and a strong commitment to student development and training. This half-time position offers an excellent opportunity for a counseling psychology professional seeking to contribute to the training and development of the next generation of practitioners while maintaining flexibility for other professional activities.
This part-time term faculty position is 50% full-time equivalent (FTE), 9-month position with an initial 3-year term.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
The Department of Psychology is a part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and aims to foster an understanding of how humans develop, learn, think, feel, act, and relate to one another. The department consists of nationally and internationally known faculty and psychologists, state of the art laboratories and equipment for conducting research, fully and continuously accredited Counseling Psychology program and individually supervised clinical training. Our faculty conduct research in three major areas of psychology: Cognitive, Social and Counseling.
