Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages, coordinates, and directs the daily digital imaging and photography services, as well as assist the Digitization Manager with in-house production digitization activities of the Lilly Library.
  • In coordination with the Digitization Manager, develops engaging projects for part-time employees to build an archive of digital image files, benefitting the Lilly Library, accelerating patron research, and enhancing current and future workflow for full-time digitization staff.
  • When needed, assists the Digitization Manager with overseeing the staging and physical transport of special collection materials to Wells Library digital services and maintains associated records.
  • Assists the Digitization Manager in uploading digital content to Digital Collections, IU's public repository of digital images of the university's collections, by completing associated spreadsheets and data-entry tasks.
  • Using Aeon software, maintains computerized and paper records related to reproduction orders, patron use, and image metadata.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises part-time employees, including workflow management and quality assurance of student work.
  • Interprets and enforces library policies governing what materials may be reproduced.
  • Responds to unique patron requests via email or telephone.
  • Works the library operations desk 2-4 hours per week and some Saturday shifts.

General Responsibilities

  • Handles and monitors library materials, including reshelving, processing new material, restocking, and ensuring that all materials can be located quickly and easily. Evaluates condition of library materials and may perform repair and preservation of library materials, as needed.
  • Assists faculty, students, and other patrons by answering phones and handling library-related issues, escalating complex issues to supervisor.
  • Monitors library systems. Creates and updates basic records, maintains automated records, reviewing for completeness and accuracy.
  • May assist with cataloging new items, performing audits of outstanding items, and/or interlibrary loan materials processing.
  • May oversee library department desk and provide training and direction for students employees working the front desk.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

  • 1 year of office experience that includes previous production work in the operation and general maintenance of digital imaging equipment and software
  • 1 year of library experience including special collections library experience and supervisory experience preferred

Preferred

  • Knowledge of digital imaging standards and experience working with digital imaging equipment (digital cameras, scanners) and related software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Bridge)
  • Knowledge of standard office systems including Office 365
  • Excellent and tactful oral and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position requires some physical activity, including moving boxes (up to 15 pounds), handling large unwieldy books, and moving book trucks.
