The Meruelo Family Center for Career Development (“CCD”) prepares students for lifelong career readiness by guiding them to discern, pursue, and achieve career goals that align with their values, interests, and skills. The Assistant Director/Career Advisor plays a mission-critical role in the CCD: you will be accountable for ensuring every undergraduate student enrolled in the Mendoza College of Business is actively engaged in career development activities.

Here are some of the key ways in which you will support students in this role:

CAREER ADVISEMENT AND CONSULTATION

Conduct individual and group student appointments related to all career development topic needs, primarily career discernment. Advise students about various career paths, skills development, internship/full-time job search strategies, interview techniques, etc.

RESOURCE AND PROGRAM CREATION AND REFINEMENT

Research, develop, and implement best-in-class programs and resources to ensure every undergraduate student in the Mendoza College of Business is equipped to manage and advance their career development. This includes workshops, guest speakers, networking events, career fair preparation, and more, specifically tailored to students in the College.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS AND ENGAGEMENT

Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure every undergraduate student in the Mendoza College of Business is connected to the most appropriate career development resources, whether offered through the Center for Career Development, the respective programs, or other campus partners.

SUPPORT OF CENTRALIZED EFFORTS

Participate in regular departmental meetings and large-scale departmental events and initiatives. Cover drop-in and exploding offer appointments, as assigned. Participate in departmental programming (career fairs, open houses, etc). Perform other duties as assigned by the Director to ensure the success of the Center for Career Development, the University, students, and other stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 to 4 years of professional experience
  • Knowledge of the functions of higher education career services
  • Knowledge of career development principles
  • Knowledge of career paths for undergraduate students pursuing entry-level opportunities
  • Competence in providing advice and guidance to students
  • Experience with career advising of college students
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Ability to present information in compelling ways, both in-person and virtually
  • Ability to learn technology quickly
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building relationships
  • Ability to think organizationally, conceptually, and strategically
  • Ability to manage projects and relationships simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Serve as a team player with a positive attitude across multiple departments with distinct responsibilities
