(Student) Training & Development Asst

WORK LOCATION: Grand Rapids - Broadmoor

DEPARTMENT: OD-Office of Perf Excellence

POSITION PAY RANGE: $12.48 - 12.50, Hourly

TARGET HIRING RANGE: Actual pay offered will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience, the type of role, pay equity and available funding.

SUMMARY:

The Training and Development Assistant is responsible for providing overall support of the training and development team in the implementation of university employee training. including the coordination of the training calendar, production of training and special event materials and multimedia, distribution of scheduled communications, assistance with securing training rooms and finalizing details for scheduled training, room set-up, and other pre and post training processes associated with the implementation of university training. In addition, this position plays a key role in managing the GREAT customer service feedback site to assure accurate and timely data collection. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University’s mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage the GREAT customer service feedback site and prepare data for review by the Executive Director and other recognition committee members.
  2. Based on prescribed processes coordinate logistical details for both internal and external training "events" - Securing rooms, food arrangements, equipment, confirming details critical to the smooth execution of the learning event.
  3. Coordinate the production of printed training materials for both internal and external training when needed. Coordinate the organization of training support materials based on checklist in preparation for facilitators- materials, pens, name tents, candy, props, etc.
  4. Manage participant lists and communication processes for scheduled training events - confirming participants attendance, special food needs, etc., updates to facilitators.
  5. Provide general support to the training and development team on the development and delivery of special events and key initiatives.
  6. Maintain a catalog/library of training resources based on topic - Includes books, CD's, DVD, manuals PLUS the potential to create a catalog of the training services provided by HR training & development.
  7. Manage and maintain the internal inventory of OPE equipment (flipcams, etc) and training supplies, etc. as well as ordering materials/supplies with approved suppliers.
  8. Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current student with at least 2 years of college level courses, including coursework in communication, human resources and technology are preferred for position.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting the standards of academic progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe) and apply strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
  • Experience in office setting preferred but not required.
  • Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain).
  • Some travel between locations may be required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
