Job Summary:

Responsible for all facets of medical billing and accounts receivable management. This includes charge corrections, contractual adjustments, and customer service. Insurance follow-up in accordance with practice protocol, federal, state, and governmental payor guidelines with an emphasis on maximizing timely collections, reduction in AR greater than 90 days, and department collaboration.

Strict adherence to procedure adjustment policies, refund policies and other accounts receivable policies as outlined in the UPPA manual is required.

Essential Functions:

1. Obtain claim status and payment information via telephone or payer websites.

2. Review denials for next steps (appeals, redeterminations, working with coding team, etc).

3. Process coding corrections and submit corrected claims to payer.

4. Post adjustments to patient accounts with strict adherence to the guidelines in the UPPA manual.

5. Assists customer service department via phone or email with billing questions or issues within 24 business hours.

6. Follow-up on all outstanding insurance claims at 30-days from the date of service in accordance with practice protocol with an emphasis on and timely collections.

7. Ability to analyze problems with trends to provide information pertaining to billing, contracted managed care plans, insurance carriers, denial reduction, provider enrollment, and reimbursement to Coordinators and/or Supervisors.

8. Follow-up on all denied claims, insurance correspondence, account reconciliations and rebills to achieve maximum reimbursement in a timely manner.

9. Submit insurance claims electronically/paper daily with proper documentation.

10. Proficiency with all facets of multiple medical practice management systems including patient registration and insurance processing.

11. Maintain an organized, efficient, and professional work environment.

12. Adhere to all practice policies related HIPAA and Medicare Compliance.

13. Other duties as assigned.

Position is eligible for the University Physicians work from home program.

Shift

Shift Type: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Flexibility for Alternative Schedules: Yes

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

Two (2) years of clerical experience; education may be used in lieu of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Niche Professional Interests: Comprehensive understanding of accounts receivable management preferably in a medical office setting.

Additional Training: Knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS, modifiers, coding, and documentation guidelines. Experience with Managed Care plans and payer guidelines.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $16.68 - $23.32/hour

Grade: PAT-5A
