A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works: Engineering and Construction, Sewer Design Section.

Examples of Duties

Under close supervision, performs routine professional engineering work under the guidance of a licensed engineer, work included but not limited to the following:

  • Improves the engineered infrastructure for Baltimore County working with teams of engineers in the Sewer Design section.
  • Assists in the feasibility assessment, design, technical review and project management of capital sanitary sewer engineering projects, including the drafting and reviewing of plans, determination of right-of-way requirements, writing of special provisions, preparation of construction estimates, review of consultant design plans, and grading plans
  • Assists in the performance of GIS work and computer-aided drafting and design of engineering drawings, plans, and projects. 
  • Assists in the preparation of engineering reports and technical studies.
  • Prepares, submits, and/or assists consultants with applications for various permits required for capital improvement projects.
  • Participates in meetings with consultants, contractors, suppliers, citizens, and others. Prepares correspondence related to projects.
  • Meets with field personnel on-site. 
  • Works with citizens and community groups to resolve complaints concerning sewer projects

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering,

OR 

Possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training issued by a State within the United States of America.

Preferred Qualifications:

College coursework, internships, and/or work experience in civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering. 

Licenses and Certificates 

Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.

Proof of License(s), Certification(s) and Education 

Applicants are required to submit proof of license(s), certification(s) and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE 

Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance

General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.

Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
