The Role:

Joining Moderna offers the unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering team that's revolutionizing medicine through mRNA technology, with a diverse pipeline of development programs across various diseases.

As an employee, you'll be part of a continually growing organization, working alongside exceptional colleagues and strategic partners worldwide, contributing to global health initiatives.

Moderna's commitment to advancing the technological frontier of mRNA medicines ensures a challenging and rewarding career experience, with the potential to make a significant impact on patients' lives worldwide.

Moderna is solidifying its presence within our international business services hub in Warsaw, Poland, a city renowned for its rich scientific and technological heritage. This hub provides critical functions, meeting the growing demand of Moderna’s global business operations. We're inviting professionals from around the world to join our mission and contribute to the future of mRNA medicines.

This role is an exciting opportunity to be a critical part of the talent engine fueling a high-growth organization that is radically transforming the biotech industry. We are seeking a Senior Observability Engineer to own and manage monitoring, alerting, and on-call management systems across Moderna's global infrastructure. The individual must have a proven track record in designing, fine-tuning, and automating observability solutions to enhance network and infrastructure operational visibility, reduce response times, and improve system reliability.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Own and manage observability platforms such as Kentik, Dynatrace, Splunk, and PagerDuty, ensuring end-to-end system health and performance visibility.
  • Define and implement best practices for monitoring, alerting, and event correlation, aligning with operational needs.
  • Continuously fine-tune alerting thresholds, anomaly detection, and event correlation to minimize false positives and improve response efficiency.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, network, systems, security, and application teams to ensure comprehensive monitoring coverage across all business-critical systems.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Develop automation scripts and integrations to streamline observability workflows, leveraging Python, Ansible, or similar technologies.
  • Implement self-healing mechanisms for recurring issues, reducing manual intervention and improving system resiliency.
  • Lead initiatives to integrate observability data with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow, JIRA) for enhanced incident tracking and resolution.
  • Optimize on-call management processes using PagerDuty, ensuring the right teams are alerted with actionable insights.
  • Support incident response efforts by providing real-time telemetry and historical trend analysis for faster root cause identification.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and root cause analysis (RCA), continuously refining monitoring strategies to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide training and documentation to Tier 1-3 support teams, improving observability tool adoption and effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytics to provide operational insights and executive visibility into system health.
  • Assist in vendor management and contract negotiations, ensuring observability tools deliver maximum value.

The key Moderna Mindsets you’ll need to succeed in the role:

  • We act with urgency. Action today compounds the lives saved tomorrow. You will proactively optimize observability tools and workflows to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • We obsess over learning. We don’t have to be the smartest—we have to learn the fastest. In this role, you will continuously refine monitoring strategies based on real-time data and incident response learnings.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • 8+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, operations, observability, or site reliability engineering (SRE).
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kentik, Dynatrace, Splunk, and PagerDuty or similar infrastructure monitoring platforms.
  • Expertise in monitoring, alerting, and log aggregation best practices for global enterprise environments.
  • Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform) to optimize observability workflows.
  • Familiarity with incident response, on-call management, and post-incident reviews (RCA analysis).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a high-paced, global environment.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Experience working in GxP-regulated environments is a plus. If no prior GxP experience, the engineer should be capable of quickly learning GxP requirements and applying best practices for compliance in observability and monitoring solutions.
  • Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare operational environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of APM (Application Performance Monitoring) and network performance analytics.
  • Understanding of ITSM processes (e.g., ServiceNow, JIRA) and how observability integrates into incident management.
  • Experience with cloud observability (AWS, Azure, or GCP monitoring tools).
  • Certifications in Splunk, Dynatrace, or other observability platforms are a plus.
  • A proactive, innovative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and automation.
