MISSION TO METRICS 

The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. In the Rivers Team, we aim to prevent floating plastic from entering into the oceans through the most polluted rivers in the world. 

The Analysis & Performance team contributes to the success of The Ocean Cleanup by ensuring that the decision-making processes in Rivers are based on reliable data. To acquire data, we perform plastic, hydraulic and hydrological modelling and collect and monitor data from the field. Your role is to support us in modelling and quality checking field data, thus assisting us in making our data valuable and visible to the world. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Responsibilities may include: 

• Standardization of field data (plastic visual counting, plastic visual classification, depths and velocities) 
• Assist in data analysis and building data processing protocols 
• Assist in hydrological modelling, with HEC-HMS and/or wflow 
• Build QGIS tools 
• Documentation 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS 

• Enrolled in an MSc-level track in environmental science, civil engineering, physics or equivalent. 
• Experience in the use of numerical modelling tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, 3Di, TUFLOW or equivalent 
• Experienced with Python 
• Affinity with GIS software like QGIS, Arcmap, or similar platforms 
• Fluent in English 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS 

• Curious, creative, and determined to deliver 
• Flexible team player 
• Ability to work independently 
• Eye for detail 
• Strong organizational and verbal communication skills 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

• Starting date: As soon as possible
• Duration: 6 months, part-time or full-time
• Work permit needed: European Union
