About Legal Group:

Across Legal Group we provide legal services to the whole of HMRC. This includes:

  • The conduct of independent reviews of decisions made by HMRC which are requested by customers under the legislative provisions.
  • The conduct of tribunal and civil litigation on a full range of services.
  • Work on new legislation.
  • Drafting of statutory instruments and other legal documents.
  • Legal advice to ExCom and staff.

We also provide technical accountancy and forensic services to HMRC, are head of the Compliance Accountants’ and Insolvency Professions as well as handling Ministerial Correspondence and Freedom of Information requests for HMRC.

Job description

This vacancy is for Band O Personal Assistants within the Business Support Team of the Legal Group. The role falls under Operational Litigation and offers excellent professional and personal development opportunities.

Person specification

The main responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the Director’s/ Deputy Director’s diary - arranging meetings, prioritising meeting requests, and resolving diary clashes.
  • Identifying and scheduling pre-meetings and/or preparation time as required.
  • Coordinating and managing meeting logistics, including booking meeting rooms and travel and accommodation requirements, and create meeting agendas.
  • Commissioning and coordinating input for briefings, reports and returns.
  • Ensuring the Director/ Deputy Director has all relevant papers and briefings ahead of meetings using One Note.
  • Managing the Senior Litigation Leadership Team SharePoint site – ensuring papers and documents are filed in a timely manner with appropriate access granted.
  • Managing sensitive administrative processes – creating case folders, saving documents, and granting secure access in a confidential and timely manner.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Providing cover for the Personal Assistants during periods of leave to ensure the continuity of professional support. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet our demands.

Essential Criteria:

  • Good working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Word, OneNote, and Teams.
  • The ability to work proactively, manage own time effectively and work well under pressure.
  • Good communication skills including the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

Benefits
