This 850-strong organisation works with both civilian and military personnel across Defence and exists to ensure that wherever Defence is operating, it can outpace, outwit and where necessary out-fight its adversaries. We provide logistic and engineering support to UK Armed Forces at home and abroad and have a broad remit spanning from planning to operational delivery. We are also driving a results-orientated transformation agenda to modernise Defence's logistic and engineering support services and contributing towards the Defence strategy to meet the UK Government goal of Net Zero 2050.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (the permanent duty station, (Bristol), which is based on business assessment of where the work is best done) and working from home as a personal choice (if the role is suitable for this). This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
The Defence Support Headquarters is made up of the business enabling functions that are pivotal to the day to day running of the organisation. The functions included are Business Operations, Communications, Chief of Defence Logistics and Support (CDLS) outer office and Risk, Assurance and Performance. It is a multidisciplinary team that helps and supports colleagues across the organisation and contributes to the delivery of the Defence Support strategy.
This role sits within the Defence Support Business Operation Team who are responsible for the oversight of the efficient and effective management of Defence Support as an HLB including Business Enablers , Resourcing , Change Management and internal Portfolio activities . The focus of this specific role is primarily on providing insight, information and support that strengthens portfolio coherence and governance to enable prioritisation decisions and effective allocation of resources across the portfolio. Supporting optimal delivery of Def Sp objectives through the analysis of a range of information sources and engagement with programme and project stakeholders, converting this information into informed insights using appropriate reporting and visualisation methods.
The role of the Business Operations Portfolio Manager - is responsible for shaping, defining and evolving an effective governance and performance programme. Working with a range of stakeholder across both Defence Support and the wider TLB community to provide CDLS with the confidence of effective portfolio management.
This is a pivotal role within the Support Function which will help facilitate shifts in mindsets and behaviours and act as a role model for others throughout the organisation.
The role is varied and allows for professional development, especially across Defence Support, giving a deep understanding of the value added work across the different areas of the different business areas the make up the Defence Support Organisation.

OUR ON-SITE FACILITIES INCLUDE:
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
