We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a friendly disposition who possesses good communication skills.
You will need to be confident and able to work under pressure whilst always remaining polite and courteous and will need to have the ability to use a degree of initiative, and the ability to retain information to prioritise daily duties.
As Audit and Assurance Manager you will be responsible for the Assurance Teams who are responsible for conducting regular assurance activities on the Armed Forces Pension Scheme (AFPS), the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) and the War Pension Scheme (WPS). The WPS & AFCS team of 3 is based at Norcross, near Blackpool. The AFPS team of 4 is based at Kentigern House, Glasgow.
You will also support Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) to conduct audits on the pensions and compensation schemes.
You will be required to work collaboratively with Operational Delivery Teams, Business Partner, and Contract Performance Monitoring Teams (CPMT).

Ensure adequate work programme in place to assure the work carried out by AFPS, AFCS and WPS Operational delivery teams.
Sign off findings reports from AFPS, AFCS and WPS Assurance teams, ensuring recommendations are provided on business improvement measures then issue findings reports to relevant stakeholders.
Manage the contracted element of AFPS delivery and ensure the accuracy of Service Pension delivery by ensuring contract is adhered to.
Manage programmes of providing formal written instructions and guidance for the business partner where necessary to ensure compliance with the pension scheme rules.
Ensure all relevant internal registers are maintained and accurate. Raise and manage Risks and Issues in the Risk Register when the accurate and timely delivery of pension and compensation products is not assured.
Liaise with the GIAA team, ensuring understanding of every area to be audited. Assist GIAA through every stage of audit, with any queries, to ensure audits are completed successfully in a timely manner.
To manage staff in accordance with Departmental best practice, with clear commitment to equal opportunities, to achieve their full potential and performance targets:
Ensure staff management issues are dealt with promptly.
Ensure performance appraisal reports are completed on time.
Ensure that agreed staff training and equal opportunities needs are met.
Carry out ad hoc work as directed, in support of Veterans UK activities.
Proactively focus on continuous improvement, to enhance the business and the customer experience. Support internal and external UK Defence customers by delivering outstanding service.
Although the role will be based in Glasgow, post holder will be required to travel to Norcross frequently.
Previous experience of working in an audit or assurance environment or knowledge of Armed Forces Pension Scheme.
To have a good attention to detail and be able to spot errors or inconsistencies in their own work and that of others.
To have excellent verbal and written communication skills
To be comfortable producing written work and data for Senior Managers.
To be able to work within a team to strict deadlines, prioritising where necessary.
To be logical and practical, using the appropriate level of process for the work required.
To be able to proactively focus on continuous improvement to ensure you are always looking for ways to enhance the business.
A good working knowledge of MS Office products in particular Excel, Word and SharePoint is essential for this role.
