The Submarine Directorate in Navy Command is responsible for ensuring the UK’s submarines are available and capable for operations, including the Continuous At Sea Deterrent. Our portfolio is high profile, vast and complex – it ranges from the day to day running of the submarine flotilla and Naval Bases, to decades long major infrastructure programmes.
The wider Devonport site consists of HM Naval Base Devonport (MOD owned) and Devonport Royal Dockyard Limited (DRDL) (Babcock owned) dockyard. These together have evolved into one of the largest bases of its kind in Western Europe. A key Defence asset for the UK, the Devonport site is critical to the Royal Navy as a main operating and support base, providing a unique contribution to the Royal Navy’s ships, submarines and people.
As HEO Business Support, you will be part of a growing Porfolio Management Office (PMO) and at the centre of the Royal Navy’s Submarine Directorate Devonport Major Infrastructure. You support your team and the Devonport Major Infrastructure Programme Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) in the day to day running of the Business Management function. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires drive, energy, and initiative plus the ability to communicate effectively across various military ranks and civilian grades. You will be an integral member of the Devonport Major Infrastructure PMO, and you will be functionally aligned to Submarine Directorate 2* business management team in NCHQ. You will need to develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members and other stakeholders across the Ministry of Defence and our Partners.

Support the Devonport Major Infrastructure PMO and Submarines Director 2* Business manager with the SM Dir’s Business Continuity Plan and conduct routine Business Impact Analysis as directed by NCHQ.
Office Manager and day to day POC/ co-ord for the PMO, SRO and the Devonport based team.
The post will be based in HMNB Devonport with potential occasional travel to other defence locations including NCHQ Portsmouth, London Main Building and other MOD or Suppler sites. This post is advertised at 37 hours per week.
The role would suit an individual with strong communication and organisational skills. The post holder will need to be proficient in MS365 applications.
The post holder is joining a young organisation within the Submarine Directorate and the SRO has been in post since April 2024. The PMO team are defining and developing their function, you will be part of this exciting journey and you will need to flexible. The 2* Submarine Directorate is refreshing it’s operating model. It is likely therefore that the responsibilities of the business management team will evolve over time.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
