This is an integral role within the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), where the successful post holder will really make a difference.

Job description

The successful Change and Release Manager will report to and be supported by the Senior Release Manager and/or Senior Business Analyst. The purpose of the role is to successfully plan and schedule the test and deployment of releases. In addition to this, to deliver new functionality required by the business while protecting the integrity of existing services. The successful post holder will ensure that service asset and configuration items are properly controlled, and that accurate and reliable information about these assets is available when needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Responsible for the creation and agreement of release and deployment management plans with customers and stakeholders both internal and external for all of Digital Services, using own initiative to resolve issues and problems.
  • Act as the escalation point for complicated issues or problems use own initiative and experience to find resolution and solutions
  • Oversee the building and testing of release artefacts that consist of related code and configuration items
  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of processes and procedure to manage the release and deployment activity across DVSA services within the Digital Services function.
  • Management of interactions between teams to understand availability and capacity to deploy.

Person specification

To succeed in this role, you have a strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle. You have experience of project management and documentation tools, for example Jira and Confluence. You can demonstrate knowledge of software versioning and version tooling, for example git. In addition to this, you can demonstrate a strong understanding of Agile delivery. You are experienced in the development of operation processes, including the use of appropriate tools and techniques. 

Excellent communication skills are pivotal to this role, you will be working with a variety of stakeholders both internally and external to the agency. You enjoy influencing others, encouraging them to make the right decisions in line with the departmental strategy.

Additional Information 

This role can be based in Birmingham, Bristol, Chadderton, Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham or Swansea, your presence at one of these locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. This role is suitable for hybrid working, and therefore a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements. Hybrid working is a non-contractual arrangement where employees have the flexibility to work remotely combined with a minimum of 60% of their working time a month at either their principal workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, to carry out separate duties at alternative working locations or DVSA sites. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

On occasions there is a need to work flexibly and there may be a requirement for the successful applicant to work into the evening, Monday - Friday. For anyone wishing to discuss this further, please reach out to the vacancy holder. 

The successful candidate will be required to travel occasionally to Bristol, Nottingham, Newcastle and Leeds which may include overnight stays. 

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement, for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.
