Function / Position Summary
To plan a program of study that follows district guidelines, and whenever possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Create an environment conducive to learning, motivating students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Implements researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students; acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
- Displays a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
- Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of curriculum goals, and establishes objectives for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
- Implements school improvement plans and strategies.
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.
- As appropriate, implements assessments of student progress and communicates progress to students and parents.
- Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior, motivates students to work to their highest potential.
- Assists in the referral and diagnosis of students with learning difficulties, seeking assistance from other school personnel as required.
- Works cooperatively with building principal and/or director in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, planning and implementing a program to improve his/her teaching competencies.
- Participates on curriculum, personnel, policy or professional development committees related to the educational program.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
- Assists administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in area(s) assigned and/or supervised in a fair and just manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement and Bilingual Special Education Teacher-Spanish Approval OR PEL with an LBS I endorsement and an Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) with a Transitional Bilingual Educator (TBE) endorsement (ELS-TBE) in Bilingual Education Teacher-Spanish.
- Bachelor’s degree in related subject from accredited university.
- Previous experience in Special Education (preferred).
Experience / Knowledge
- Bilingual Spanish /English written and verbal required.
- Knowledge of common core standards.
- Knowledge of instructional and resource programs for students with special education eligibility.
Physical Demands
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 30 lbs. with proper technique.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
Terms of Employment
- This is a temporary position. Paid staff professional development will be held on 5/28/2025 and 5/29/2025. Students attend Monday through Friday from 6/2/2025 through 7/2/2025. Staff hours on each day are 7:45-11:45 am.
- Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
Summer Extended School Year (ESY) staff will support one of these locations: Streamwood High School and Liberty Elementary School.
Two days of professional development are required for summer school. Those dates are May 28 and May 29. ESY begins on June 2 and ends July 2.
ESY occurs Monday through Thursday with no school on June 19, 2025 to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday. Staff must be available on all days during
the summer school sessions.
ESY staff are expected to be at school 15 minutes prior to the school day and 15 minutes after the school day concludes.
Staff hours: 7:45 am - 11:45 am
Student school day: 8:00 am - 11:30 am
ETA members will be paid the Instructional Rate
