Summer School Location: Streamwood High School
Summer school occurs Monday through Friday with no school on June 19, 2025 to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday. Staff must be available on all days during the summer school sessions.
Staff hours: 7:30 am to 1:15 pm. | Student school day: 7:45 am to 1:00 pm.
Summer School Rate: Current Hourly Rate unless the position accepted is a higher-grade level than the employees current paraeducator position.

Function / Position Summary
To support the program in providing a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interests and needs of the students with an IEP. To perform duties and activities under direct supervision of a certified staff member.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Implement individual or small group instructional lessons under the supervision of a certified teacher.
- Familiarize self with IEP goals/objectives for students in the classroom.
- Facilitate implementation of functional community based curriculum.
- Follow through on set behavioral programs and procedures.
- Document student behavior as directed by the teacher.
- Supervise IEP students during lunch, recess, arrival and departure times, and/or community trips as directed, during assigned work hours.
- Help in the loading and unloading of student buses at school and on trips during assigned work hours.
- Escort students within the building, as directed by the classroom teacher. 9. Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher by assisting with any related activity specific to the students’ IEP.
- Lift, transfer, position, toilet, etc. (this is special skills only).
- Provide input to the classroom teacher regarding student-para interactions.
- Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
- Para Educator, Substitute, or Professional Educator License required.
- Minimum education requirement for a Para Educator License is completion of at least 60 semester hours of college coursework or a passing score on the ETS ParaPro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
- Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.
Experience / Knowledge
- Related work experience preferred.
- Teaching experience is preferred, but not necessary for hiring.
Physical Demands
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 30 lbs. with proper technique.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
Terms of Employment
- This is a temporary position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. U-46 reserves the right to terminate the position by the third day of student attendance if a minimum number of students do not register or enroll.
