Department Summary:

MITRE’s Strengthen Coalition Capabilities (N124) Department is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the position of Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) domain subject matter expert (SME). This role is located at the MITRE Site in Huntsville, Alabama, primarily working with the Missile Defense Agency and contributing to multi-national security efforts with U.S. allies in the Pacific and European theaters. The candidate should be capable of exercising their skills by delivering high quality technical products and reaching across MITRE to support solving multi-faceted material and non-materiel needs to improve U.S. and coalition mission effectiveness. The role is open today and we are seeking a candidate to start as soon as feasible.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical advice to enable sustainment and evolution of Air Defense (AD) and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) sensors, command and control, and effector systems.
  • Develop technical and non-material roadmaps to enable dynamic composition of U.S. and Allied systems into a regional and global Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) capability.
  • Contribute to and lead inter-disciplinary teams to develop concepts, define requirements, develop test plans, independently assess and analyze system performance, and investigate technologies and concepts to improve mission performance.
  • Advocate for development and evolution of technical and procedural standards to enable coalition force interoperability and interchangeability.
  • Lead department collaboration with the corporation and foster the development of inter-organizational relationships to advance global IAMD mission performance.
  • Communicate complex technical analysis and recommendations to diverse U.S. and partner nation stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
  • Must be a U.S. citizen holding a U.S. DoD Secret clearance
  • Ability to leverage systems analysis— technical and functional skillsets, maintain relationships with internal and external government representatives.
  • Must have domain knowledge and/or experience in two of the following areas:
  • Air and Space domain positive and procedural controls
  • Space- and ground-based sensing of the air and space domains
  • Radar processing and multi-source track correlation
  • Ground and sea-based effectors
  • Layered defense concepts and implementations
  • Counter Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) point defense capabilities
  • Air defense and/or ballistic missile defense operations
  • Tactical data links, including Link-16, Link-22
  • Joint All Domain Command Control (JADC2)
  • IAMD modeling and simulation for technical analysis
  • Threat evaluation and weapon assignment
  • Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to C2 and IAMD mission
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in related field and 10+ years applicable experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
  • Ability to maintain a U.S. DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and engineering excellence
  • Demonstratable leadership, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to achieve consensus
  • Strong technical, verbal and written skills with ability to clearly identify and communicate key information
  • Awareness of the evolving Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA)
  • Experience working with international partners or equivalent experience in related collaborative and cultural skillsets
  • Knowledge of US Joint and unified command theater operations 
  • Experience and familiarity with USINDOPACOM and USEUCOM operational plans and country cooperation plans
  • Experience and familiarity with Department of State (DoS) Integrated Country Strategies (ICS)
