About DIO

Major Programme & Project Delivery (MPP) is accountable and responsible for the delivery of infrastructure capital projects (excluding Minor New Works) to support the Front-Line Commands (FLCs) in the UK and overseas. MPP provides infrastructure project delivery and expert input to the early development of programmes and projects across the FLCs. MPP has adopted the principles of Portfolio, Programme and Project Management (P3M) and will champion them across DIO. MPP also directs and advises DE&S on all infrastructure aspects of hybrid projects, including nuclear. MPP operates through a geographically dispersed organisation.

Summary of the Role 

Working at the heart of a high-profile Portfolio Office, this post is responsible for coordination and direct support across the Portfolio Management Group. The role is pivotal to ensure the PfO activities are co-ordinated and tracked by engaging relevant stakeholders to produce the required outputs (e.g. events, briefing papers, presentations). The post holder will work closely with the Hd of Portfolio Management, the Performance Lead and the People, Business Management and Engagement Lead to manage the schedule of work and associated governance activities ensuring they are fully informed. 

The post holder will be responsible for supporting teams across the Group and wider PFO to maintain and improve data quality across its systems, gathering and analysing management information, and producing reports. 

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join DIO Major Programmes & Projects (MPP)as we seek a forward thinking, self-motivated individual working at the heart of a high profile Portfolio Office responsible for coordination and direct support across the Portfolio Management Group. The role is pivotal to ensure the PfO activities are co-ordinated and tracked, engaging relevant stakeholders to produce the required outputs (e.g. events, briefing papers, presentations). The post holder will work closely with the Hd of Portfolio Management, the Performance Lead and the People, Business Management and Engagement Lead to manage the schedule of work and associated governance activities ensuring they are fully informed. 

The role will also provide numerous opportunities to widen knowledge and experience in a range of key enabling functions by providing support to activities such as internal communications, business management, corporate compliance, recruitment and training to name a few.

Person specification

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate good IT skills particularly in the use of Microsoft Office packages, be a good communicator and be able to operate in a multifunctional team environment

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
