Position Overview:

The Pressure Equipment Integrity Engineer (PEI Engineer) provides discipline support for fixed equipment on capital projects across Motiva refining, chemicals, and logistics assets at the Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex (PAMC). The PEI Engineer plays a key role in oversight of scope development, design, fabrication, installation, and modifications of fixed equipment and helps drive completion of related project objectives and deliverables across the project life cycle.

Working on a team of Engineers and Inspectors under the direction of the PEI Team Lead, the PEI Engineer provides technical assurance, supports quality assurance, and ensures compliance with all PEI related requirements for the assigned projects portfolio. The typical portfolio includes numerous small cap projects with a possibility of some large cap projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assurance and support to Capital Project Organization to ensure equipment integrity and reliability for fixed equipment assets.
  • Work effectively with multiple cross-functional project teams including multiple EPCs to ensure successful project delivery through project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with PEI Department representatives such as Unit Engineers and Inspectors, Corrosion and Materials Engineers, and Fired Equipment Specialists, and Civil Engineers to assess impact of project changes.
  • Specify and interpret PEI-related Codes and standards (e.g., ASME BPV/Piping, API, ASTM, TEMA), Motiva standards and practices, and Regulatory/Jurisdictional requirements, and ensure proper application to projects.
  • Provide oversight to EPC’s and ensure quality of engineering work.
  • Help develop and approve project scopes and project requirements.
  • Review bid packages and bid evaluations for fixed equipment, provide vendor selection input.
  • Review and approve vendor documents such as fabrication and installation drawings, BOM, fabrication requirements, calculations, weld procedures, testing, coating, insulation, fireproofing, and shipping, storage, and preservation requirements.
  • Approve material selection for both pressure equipment and other discipline’s equipment (rotating equipment, process internals, control system instruments).
  • Review and approve piping specification selections, piping designs, and pipe stress analysis reports.
  • Provide input into PSM related reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, PHA, and MOC.
  • Participate in review and approval of project and vendor quality documents.
  • Ensure that critical aspects of Pressure Equipment Integrity Management are included in project estimates and get delivered.
  • Initiate ideas to improve project designs and enhance equipment reliability and maintainability.
  • Participate in on-call rotation (approx. 3 weeks/year)

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience working in PEI Engineering or related fields
  • Knowledge of Industry Codes and Standards
  • Ability to effectively support multiple projects and organize/prioritize own daily work
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, strong computer skills
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities
  • Track record of effective teamwork, self-motivation, and ownership of own work
  • Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card at time of hire

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Materials/Metallurgical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience working in PEI Engineering or related fields
  • API Certifications 510, 570, 653
  • Experience within refining/chemicals facilities or related businesses
  • Experience with capital projects and familiarity with phased project processes
  • Familiar with pressure vessel design software and pipe stress analysis software
  • Knowledge of refining/chemical damage mechanisms

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots and hearing protection)
