Job Description:

A Veterinary Technician or Radiology technologist in Diagnostic Imaging will schedule and complete large and small animal imaging to include: nuclear medicine scans, radiographic studies, and MRI and CT scans. Teaching diagnostic imaging to faculty, residents, interns, and veterinary and technician students to include but are not limited to: patient handling safety, radiation safety, proper positioning for studies, and basic quality control. The position will also assist in scheduling, capturing charges, stocking and cleaning the area. The technician will also work closely with the radiologists to optimize workflow and quality of images. 

Radiology Technician 1:

70% Assist in scheduling and imaging small and large animal patients in a manner that efficiently executes the daily patient load in Diagnostic Imaging. Assist in the teaching aspects of all diagnostic imaging modalities to include but not limited to: patient safety, radiation/magnetic field safety, positioning and safe handling for studies, optimizing image quality.

15% Assist with preparing the imaging suites for each study. Including requesting service preparation of necessary personnel for items like sedation, monitoring, etc. Assist with properly setting up and double checking all equipment and data entry prior to and during exposure. 

10% Assist with data entry and charge capture. Assist with maintaining a clean well stocked and safe working environment at all times.

5% As an essential personnel be a part and respond as needed in the event of emergency response situations. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree OR Completion of a Radiology Technology program OR Associates degree in veterinary technology OR CVT or equivalent OR 3 years of experience in a working environment with similar duties. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and Radiology Technology Certification or Veterinary technology credentials.

Specific Experience: Animal husbandry and restraint experience with both small and large animal species. Diagnostic imaging experience. 

Radiology Technician 2:

70% Schedule and image small and large animal patients efficiently to manage the daily patient load in Diagnostic Imaging. Perform all aspects of diagnostic imaging modalities, including but not limited to patient safety, radiation/magnetic field safety, positioning, and the safe handling of small and large animals, while optimizing image quality.

10% Prepare the imaging suites for each study. Including requesting service preparation of necessary personnel for items like sedation, monitoring, etc. To include proper set-up and double checking all equipment and data entry prior to and during exposure. 

10% Assist with preparing the imaging suites for each study. Including requesting service preparation of necessary personnel for items like sedation, monitoring, etc. Assist with properly setting up and double checking all equipment and data entry prior to and during exposure. 

10% Enter data and accurately capture charges. Maintaining a clean well stocked and safe working environment at all times.

5% Perform all aspects of diagnostic imaging, including but not limited to patient safety, radiation safety, safe positioning of small and large animals for all studies, and configuring settings for optimal imaging.

5% As an essential personnel be a part and respond as needed in the event of emergency response situations. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree OR Completion of a Radiology Technology program OR Vet Technology program with 2 years of experience; OR CVT or Equivalent with 2 years of experience OR 5 Years of experience in a working environment with similar duties.

3 years of applicable experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and Radiology Technology Certification or Veterinary technology credentials.

Specific Experience: Animal husbandry and restraint experience with both small and large animal species. Diagnostic imaging experience. 

Radiology Technician 3:

70% Conduct and teach diagnostic and therapeutic radiographic studies of small and large animals in clinical, instructional, and research programs. As well as leadership and instruction to include, but not limited to: radiation/magnetic field/animal handling safety, safe and proper positioning of small and large animals for studies, image optimization and quality control. Obtain and teach aspects of radiographic studies to include safety and operation of specialty equipment to those within and outside the radiology service. Able to trouble shoot and diagnose specialized equipment. 

10% Perform, teach, and train scheduling and imaging of small and large animal patients in a manner that efficiently executes the daily patient load in Diagnostic Imaging. Plan and alter schedule in the absence of students. Support the emergency duty Radiologist/resident through provision of radiographic services when requested. 

10% Prepare and instruct others on set up of the imaging suites for each study. Including requesting service preparation of necessary personnel for items like sedation, monitoring, etc. To include proper set- up and double checking all equipment and data entry prior to and during exposure. 

10% Perform, teach, and train data entry and charge capture via the RIS and EMR systems. Maintain a clean well stocked and safe working environment at all times. As an essential personnel be a part and respond as needed in the event of emergency response situations. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree OR Completion of a Radiology Technology program OR Vet Technology program with 4 years of experience; OR CVT or Equivalent with 4 years of experience OR 7 Years of experience in a working environment with similar duties.

4 years of applicable experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and Radiology Technology Certification or Veterinary technology credentials.

Specific Experience: Animal husbandry and restraint experience with both small and large animal species. Diagnostic imaging experience. 

Special or Physical Qualifications (ALL LEVELS):

  • Able and willing to answer phone calls after hours from students. Required to work "on-call"/ relief shift as needed for Live Ins.
  • Part of Emergency Response Personnel - linked with hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
  • Required to be capable of more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), kneel or sit on the floor, push/pulling, grasping, crawling, twisting, squatting, climbing, sitting, and/or bending
  • Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random alcohol/drug testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67
