Description:

We are seeking a Technical Architect to work on our small team of senior-level consultants to implement our software at Property and Casualty Insurance Carriers.

The Guidewire Professional Services organization includes business analysts, functional consultants, and technical integration consultants who work together to help customer and SI vendors to implement Guidewire applications at customer sites. Our projects are complex and can last from three months to two years depending on the specific customer requirements. During a project, the team will identify customer business requirements, identify solutions leveraging OOTB capabilities coupled with configuration to meet those requirements, and integrate the Guidewire application to other internal or external systems.

Guidewire consultants are expected to spend the majority of their time on-site with the customer business and technical teams. This is primarily a Japan-based role but there may be an opportunity to work in other regions that Guidewire operates in.

Guidewire applications are highly configurable to the requirements of each customer and require a thorough understanding of the objectives and requirements of the customer. 

Key activities include:

  • Communicate effectively with customers in Japanese and collaborate on projects
  • Work with customer business and technical teams to understand business goals and technical requirements
  • Develop overall configurations for customers
  • Promote Guidewire best practices and assist customers with implementation
  • Work with a small team while collaborating with large customer/SI teams
  • Conduct a PoC (Proof of Concept) using Guidewire products when necessary
  • Supporting execution of tests, including monitoring software defects and communicating software issues to Guidewire engineering
  • Understand the customer's existing system, design and implement the method of integration with Guidewire products
  • Use JAVA and GOSU to integrate and configure our software at insurance carriers throughout Japan

These roles represent Guidewire Software to our customers. The successful consultant is expected to closely with our customers while making sure that Guidewire product management is kept abreast of product strengths and weaknesses. The position requires a unique blend of technical aptitude, business process understanding, and customer-facing skills.

Required skills/experience - all:

  • If Japanese is a second language, the ability to speak Japanese at JLPT 1 or equivalent level
  • If Japanese is a second language, practical knowledge of the business environment and Japanese market challenges. Demonstrated track record of good relationship building in Japan.
  • If English is a second language, demonstrate fluency in English language skills by TOEIC (Test of English for International Communications) – score of 800 – 900 or equivalent level. In the absence of a testing benchmark, the ability to pass language assessment during the selection process.
  • Over 7 years of combined experience in software development and consulting, with no less than 3 years
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Leadership skills to understand customer needs and lead discussions
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexible attitude and strong work ethic, with a strong desire to learn new knowledge
  • Experience and skills to work in a small team
  • Solid knowledge and ample experience of Agile development
  • Technical skills for mastering application composition:
  • Understanding of how to implement advanced web applications(JBoss, Tomcat, etc.)
  • Object Oriented Programming experience of at least 2 years (Java, C# etc)
  • Relational databases experience of at least 2 years
  • Cloud-related skills (AWS, GCP, etc.) of at least 2 years of experience
  • Flexible, enthusiastic approach to work including a strong desire to learn a new product and a new business domain
  • Demonstrated ability to drive the discussion with customers/partners, and navigate customer situations
  • Experience in developing technical specifications, implementing them through programming and configuration, and designing, testing, and deploying integrated software systems

Desired skills/experience:

  • Knowledge of non-life insurance in Japan or experience with insurance projects
  • Knowledge of insurance company policies, claims, and claims processing
  • Experience as a systems analyst/consultant for a Fortune 500 company in the technology field
  • Experience designing, configuring, and testing Guidewire products
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: 1) General modern integration methods such as web services (API) technology (REST, JSON-RPC, SOAP), message queues 2) Experience developing enterprise integration middleware and micro-service architecture with general knowledge of software/networks security. 3) Experience with VCS, CICD (Git, Teamcity, etc.) 4) Observability tool(Datadog, etc.).
