Geotechnical Field Technician/Technologist

Your Responsibilities

  • Assist in scope/costing of geotechnical investigations/field work
  • Compile utility information, initiate BC One Calls, and obtain permits for geotechnical investigations
  • Soil/rock logging during geotechnical investigations
  • Describe and classify soil/rock types in accordance with ASTM and Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual
  • Transcribe soil logs using gINT
  • Support EXP Materials lab on conducting laboratory index testing, including moisture contents, proctor tests and sieve analyses, Atterberg limits, as needed
  • Support EXP Materials on construction quality control QC work, as needed
  • Support geotechnical EoR as Delegate by conducting pile inspections and subgrade inspections for footings and other quality assurance QA work, as needed
  • Demonstrate a “Safety-First” focus and maintain a high standard of work
  • Perform field soil compaction testing with soil density gauge, under QC/QA work
  • Drafting (using AutoCAD)
  • The Skills, Knowledge, and Ability We Seek
  • 1-2 full construction seasons of relevant work experience
  • Have training in soils description and identification
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and work with EoRs to resolve geotechnical inquiries, while on construction sites
  • Able to read drawings and specifications
  • Able to discuss site issues with consultants and contractors
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to write clear field reports
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must have own vehicle and appropriate insurance coverage to travel to project sites
  • The salary range for this role is between $50,000-$75,000 yearly. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
