The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
GThe technologist will be the point person for daily operations within the surgical pathology laboratory. Daily decisions are required regarding workload, providing customer service assistance to internal and external parties, handling immediate human resource issues, and meeting the needs of the department's anatomic pathologists and residents for diagnostic requests and research projects.
Typical Assignments and Responsibilities:
Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory. Assess work flow and assign technicians to tasks as needed.
Performs all duties related to processing specimens through the laboratory. Gross small biopsies, embedding and microtomy and processes IHC requests.
Perform competency assessment and training on staff as needed.
Serves as a member of the Surgical Pathology Operations Committee and other ad hoc departmental committees to contribute to the growth and sound management of the unit.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a NYS License as a Medical Technologist AND four years of related experience. Experience in a histology laboratory is required.
