The New York City Department of Community Development invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) funds services for Runaway and Homeless Youth that include Drop-in Centers, Crisis Services Programs, Transitional Independent Living Support programs, and Street Outreach and referral Services.
The New York City Youth Count, a point-in-time assessment of locations where young people ages 14-24 spent the night, is part of an ongoing effort to improve the count of youth experiencing homelessness and better understand the housing experiences of youth and young adults in New York City. The 2025 New York City Youth Count is planned for the end of January and usually lasts 4 days.
DYCD seeks a Youth Count Coordinator to support the implementation of this assessment. This is a 6-month position from the hire date. The coordinator would commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week and will report to the Director of Strategic Partnerships + Data Analysis.
Primary responsibilities would include:
coordination and responding to inquiries.
Count planning process.
stakeholder conversations.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time experience in community work, youth activities, administrative planning, teaching, or related fields; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college or completion of two years of study (60 credits) at an accredited college and five years of satisfactory, full-time experience in community work, youth activities, administrative planning, teaching,or related fields; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and seven years of satisfactory full-time experience in community work, youth activities, administrative planning, teaching, or related fields
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above. A master's degree from an accredited college can be substituted for one year of required experience.
